    Getting a PC7424XP, Now What Product?

    I plan on ordering a PC to take care of the swirls all over my truck and I was just wondering what product you guys would recommend before i make my order on ADS. I've heard a lot about the M105 and M205 combo and was considering that. What do you guys think?

    Also, do I have to use a Meg's Backing Plate with the Meg's Pads or for example can I use a Buff And Shine Backing Plate with a Meguiar's Pad? I noticed some of the other backing plates are almost half the price of the Meg's ones.

      For what you're dealing with there, go with Ultimate Compound. It's from our consumer line, but it is derived from M105 but will offer a much more user friendly experience with a D/A polisher - less dust, longer buffing cycle, plenty of power to get through even some very nasty stuff (and your paint doesn't look "nasty" at all).

      You do not need a Meguiar's backing plate to use our pads, although our Soft Buff 2.0 pads were designed with our W68DA backing plate in mind. If you choose to purchase a Meguiar's G110v2 D/A polisher it comes with this backing plate.

        Should I still go over it with M205 after Ultimate Compound? And what should I do about all those white marks on my bumper?

          I ordered a W68DA backing plate and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and saw that it came with a G110v2! Took some of the sting out of the $150 retail price, which I thought was just a little steep for a backing plate...

            On a dark color like that you may really love what M205 can do for the overall clarity, and how it can make the metallic really pop. Depends on how much time and effort you want to put into a daily driver........ most on MOL would probably feel their daily deserves this level of TLC.

            As for the front bumper.... any ideas just what that is? Dried bug parts? Chips in the paint? Can you feel them? After washing and drying we would recommend claying and then using UC on the D/A and see where that gets you first.

              Well my daily driver is pretty much my obsession now, so naturally I love spending time on it

              I'm pretty sure it's just bug parts on my bumper and I can feel some of them. Would UC still be fine to use on a plastic bumper?

                The bumper is painted the same color as the rest of the truck, isn't it? Yes, it's heavy with bug bits right now, but it looks like there's gloss behind them and not just matte black plastic. If the bumper is indeed painted the same color as the rest of the truck, then by all means treat it exactly the same way; clay, paint cleaner, wax - after all, you are working on the paint, not the steel, plastic, urethane, fiberglass, aluminum etc underneath it.

                Now, if the bumper is not painted but is a matte black plastic instead, claying may be tricky, if not downright impossible. A very smooth plastic can be clayed, but any texture will cause that clay to catch, drag and smear. You'd be better off with something like APC or M39 to clean it up first.

                  Yeah, the bumper is the same color as the rest of the truck and made of smooth plastic so ill just Clay, Ultimate Compound, and Wax it.
