  • G110v2 - Confused by what pads I need

Hello, I've been putting off getting the g110 a few months ago because I heard the g110v2 was coming out and now its out and has great reviews but im still confused on the pads I need to get. I plan to get Megiuars #105 and #205 to use with it.

Anyway, I haven't kept up to date on the pads and apparently there are new Megiuars soft buff pads 2.0 or something and theres all different sizes, etc. Aren't the pads supposed to be at least as big as the backing plate? I'm not even sure what size the backing plate is that comes with the g110v2?

So I was hoping someone could tell me which pads I need and how many of each to start out with.

    Thanks!

No. The backing plates should be at least 1/2 " smaller in diameter, sometimes even up to an inch. You don't want the backing plate (BP) to reach to the edge of the pad because it becomes too easy to catch an edge or curve with the edge of the BP, possibly causing a scratch or gouge.

The 7" 2.0 soft buf pads have a self centering feature that works very well with the W68DA backing plate. It leaves enough of a pad edge to ensure safe buffing. The new 4" soft buf pads work really well with the Meguiars S3BP backing plate (3" diameter). I just used both backing plates today with both sets of pads and the system really works very well

So to start out with I should get the megiuars soft buff 2.0 7" pads and they will work fine with the included backing plate?

also would 1 of each of the 3 pad types be good enough?

Sure, the soft buff 2.0 7" pads will work fine with the included backing plate.

You really don't need a cutting pad starting out. The general recommendation is to not even use them unless you have a lot of experience using polishers. To start off with, check out ADS and order a 6 pack of 7" pads and 4" pads (if you want to have both sets). For either size pad, I would recommend a split of 4 polishing pads and 2 finishing pads. You will want to swap out pads during a paint correction if you want to use different polishes, and sometimes it's just a good idea to swap out pads after finishing a section of the car.

Re: G110v2 - Confused by what pads I need

Alright I think I have all the info I need now.. heres what I'm going to get:

            Megiuars G110v2
Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish
Meguiars Mirror Glaze #105 Ultra-Cut Compound
            Megiuars Soft Buff 2.0 Pads
            - 4 W8207 Polishing Pads
            - 2 W9207 Finishing Pads

One other question.. will I be able to apply wax (i use the nxt 2.0 tech wax) with the finishing pads? also, can i then remove the wax with a microfiber bonnet over one of the pads?

You can apply wax with a finishing pad. You can remove wax with a microfiber bonnet ideally fitted over a cutting pad. I haven't tried to fit a bonnet on a polishing pad, but it might work. You might want to adjust your order to include a cutting pad forthis reason, but I would stay with the 4 polishing pads. Polishing pads will be your most used pads out of the three types, and like microfiver towels you can never have enough!

I went with the same combination of products and pads. It's nice that you can machine wash the Softbuff 2.0's, and I have washed mine this way, but for the most part, I've been spraying them with some APC+ and hand washing them in the sink. They're a breeze to clean this way, and I just feel like it's gentler on the pads.

As for waxing, I know that you can use the finishing pads for this, but I choose to hand wax. Just my preference.
