  • Question about using a DA polisher

I understand (pretty well i think) how to use a DA safely over flat area like a hood, or a door. I'm a bit uncertain about how you use it when going over curves and stuff. In this vid, around 1:30 -

I thought it was dangerous to pass over curves like that as it would burn the edge that sticks up. Is this not the case? I'm just trying to avoid damaging any paint on uneven surfaces.

    Thanks!

If it were me, I would try to be a bit flatter on the top side of the panel. And then work the curve from the side up.

Re: Question about using a DA polisher

The risk of burning paint with a DA is pretty slim. That's more of an issue with a rotary.

I have a PT Cruiser and when I first put the DA on it, I had to learn through trial and error how to move the machine over the curves on the fenders. Pay attention as you move over the curved parts and see if the machine bogs down. Adjust the angle and pressure of the pad as needed and you'll find what works for you.
