    G220 and my upcoming detail!

    Hi guys!
    Very soon i am going to start my very first detail by dual action polisher. I am used to the hand application way but wanted to take it further. I am able to get the old G220 at a good price and would just like some advice before i go ahead. My car is a Holden (Our Aussie readers will know these) as illustrated below.





    In the photo's it looks fairly reasonable because it just had a detail at that time. However working by hand i wasn't able to acheive the results i was after and have a few light scratches and lots of swirls under sun light.

    The products which i will be using with the G220 for my next detail are:-

    Wash (dry)
    Clay bar
    SwirlX
    Next Gen Wax 2.0

    However i also have Ultimate Compound on the ready and i'm also in two minds of purchasing the Show Car glaze from the professional series for the polish after the compounds. So after doing a lot of reading and research into things i would like to throw this to the professionals and see if i'm on the right track with the G220 and the products in which i have already!

    Yeah, sounds good. #7 is a good product, up to you if you want a pure polish or not .

        Definte #7 then NXT 2.0 wax. But I am surprised you had swirls.. after a detail! Just a '' detail'' wax meaning a good clean? yeah?

          Looks like you're on the right track. And yes get some #7, once you've got out the swirls with your SwirlX or UC, give it some #7 love, then buff that off and hit it with the NXT.

          Make sure you give us plenty of 'after' photos

            Just read your post so here's the skinny.

            #7 is a pure polish and it does not have any cutting ability but it sure does have masking ability - guess it's from the TSO.

            While some debate over seeing a significant difference between applying the pure polish/glaze before waxing, and from polish (in your case swirl x) straight to waxing, I would proceed by excluding #7 from your regimen as the most significant difference from applying #7 could be seen from a single stage paint (no clearcoat) vehicles.

            So, Wash - Clay - UC - Swirl X - NXT 2.0 sequence would suffice for your Holden's paint.

            But, that's just my opinion.

              SwirlX is pretty mild so, depending on level of defects present, hardness of paint and ultimate goal, it may or may not be aggressive enough to accomplish the task. Since you have Ultimate Compound available you might want to do a couple of test spots first, side by side and separated by a bit of painters tape. If the SwirlX yields the desired result then there's no need to put UC to use. If not, and the UC does a better job for you then so be it.

              There's nothing worse than just jumping in with both feet, only to find after the fact that you didn't achieve quite the result you were after.

              Just remember to work small areas at a time, use a yellow polishing pad for the paint cleaning step, run the tool at speed 5 and use enough pressure to deform the pad but not enough to stop the rotation. And move it s-l-o-w-l-y over the paint!!

                Wow thanks heaps for the great advice everyone. It seems like i was on the right track just needed a bit of guidance along the way! It will be very soon so i will post a good review with before and after pics. I sell a lot of these products where i work but a lot of my customers are doing their car by hand, which is great of course. I have talked my boss into getting this machine which is available to us in Australia so i will have a heads up on how it works to pass it along to other enthusiasts!

                  Oh just another quick question... When i am doing these two test spots for the SwirlX and Ultimate Compound, will i need two of the same cutting pads or can i just wash it after i try the first one? Or should i not be a tight *** and just buy two cutting pads lol

                    If you're using them at the same time, then have 2 pads.

                    Do you have any pad cleaning solution? Such as DP Pad Rejuvinator? It's a powder solution you just add to about 10L of water, and that bucket will last you a week or so for cleaning your pads! Then once they're clean and dry, you can use a different product no worries!

                    But generally speaking, whilst you're working, 1 product per pad is ideal...

                      From first-hand experience, SwirlX will not be aggressive enough to remove all swirls/scratches from your VY's hard paint.

                      I've found the magic product for paint correction on my old VY (and my black VE) is ScratchX 2.0. If your budget permits, you should pick yourself up a bottle. Otherwise the UC should be fine, though I'm not sure if it will marr the finish since I'm yet to try UC.

                        Thanks heaps again! I think i will just buy 2 pads, it seems easier and money isn't a real issue. I don't care how much a spend on my paint correction. I have the old version of scratch X and probably should have tried this too. But seeing as my polisher is around the corner i will still hold off until that arrives. I have noticed it is a harder paint to crack. Not so hard with the two massive key scratches down the side of my rear door =(

                          Different kettle of fish to ScratchX 2.0. I've had great success with 2.0 but little to none with 1.0.
