  • Help with this polisher

I know this is not a meguiar's product but I saw this polisher on eBay and it is at a really cheap price. The reason why I am interested in bidding on this polisher is because of the price and it is something to practice with.

My question is if anyone heard or used a 7" montgomery 2 speed sander/polisher. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

    Thanks for the help.

    Re: Help with this polisher

This is a sander polisher. By definition, a porter cable is also a sander polisher, but it's a dual action (oscillation and rotational) polisher with a safety clutch that makes it safe for polishing automotive paint. I'm not sure the item you're looking at is the same type of device. Another concern is the backing plate, which in the photo looks like a flat, hard rubber plate, not the hook and loop backing plates necessary for use with velcro backed pads. Is the plate removable? If so, is the spindle 5/8"? I would try to get answers to those questions from the seller before making a bid.

The best advice I ever received on this site was to not save money by taking shortcuts with your tools and products. To save yourself a few dollars is not worth the risk you're taking with your paint job which, depending on the vehicle, could be a $3,000 to $10,000 value.

Check craigslist for one. Picked up a makita for $100. Not even used.
