  • Suggestions on pad choices, please

I will soon be ordering the new 110 from ADS. The package I am going to get is the one that comes with six pads.

I understand that each pad has a different purpose, will give a different result based on machine speed, pressure and product used. What I am trying to fiugre out is the most versatile combination of the six pads.

On my vehichles, I only have minor to slight moderate swirls in a few places.

I would like some suggestions on the number of each pads. If I'm not exactly right, it's no big deal as I can always order more pads later, but I am trying to make an effort to get the things that will best suit my current needs.

Also, can someone give me an explanation of the differnce in a pad and a bonnet? I always thought the bonnets were a way to help buff the wax and give it a little shine, but on ADS, it says their bonnets remove wax. Did I get this totally wrong?

You'd probably be good with just getting the W8006 Polishing and W9006 Finishing pads. What kind of vehicle do you own? That will help us give you a better estimate of how many pads you'll need. For starting, probably 2-3 of each pad would be good, but if you have a truck or something large, then more pads will be needed. And you can use a bonnet to apply wax. That's what most of the machines that you see at Wal-Mart, Target and Sears use to apply the wax, either a microfiber or terry cloth bonnet. You can use to buff off the wax to, like what ADS said.

      Thanks.

My vehicles are a white 2001 Honda CRV and a metallic graphite 2004 PT Cruiser.

I thought if nothing else, I would simply select two of each pad and get a few bonnets to go with it.

Once I have removed the swirls etc and my paint is the way I want it save the need to wax it, do I use just a bonnet over the pad or is it correct to use a finishing pad to apply wax and a bonnet to remove it after it dries?

Polishing pads (W8207) will be your most used and most versatile pad, followed by finishing pads (W9207) and then cutting pads (W7207).

The cutting pad will be rarely used unless you are a professional detailer attacking some serious paint defects. For swirl removal. polishing pads are usually sufficient, although finishing pads can sometimes do the job if the swirls are light. Finishing pads are also useful for applying polishes like M205, and can be used to apply wax.

If I had to recommend a starting package of 6 pads, I would go with 3 polishing, 2 finishing, and one cutting pad. The cutting pad, if nothing else, is an excellent platform to fit on a bonnet for wax removal.

          Thanks, CC.

I was sort of leaning in that direction, but with this all being new to me, I wanted some ideas from folks who have been using this stuff a bit.

Does the type of pad the bonnet is placed over impact the function at all?

For removing product, you want a stiff pad under the bonnet.

Generally, a cutting pad would be best.
