  • New Buffer/Polisher

I am debating the idea of purchasing a dual action buffer/ polisher, wondering what is the difference between a porter cable 7424-7424xp & a Meguiars machine other than where they are manufactured! Any and all opinions will be helpful to help with my dilemma. Thank you every-one in advance for your input Dan

The Meg's g110 is pretty much the same as the pc7424xp. the older Meg's g100 is comparable to the pc7424 (i believe the g100 is a rebadged 7424). both newer versions are more powerful at removing defects. some of the early g110's have had issues w/ the carbon brushes. it also has a one year warranty vs. a 3 year warranty w/ the new PC XP. Meg's will eventually carry replacement brushes for the g110 which is good for those whose warranty expired. at the time, only the g110 was out (before the PC XP). i voted for the Meg's g110 as that's all i've used. i've had it replaced 2 times but Meg's customer support is outstanding. i currently have 2 g110's as i find it a pain to switch to the 3in backing plates and the 6in backing plate.

I bought the PC 7336sp at Lowes a couple years ago...for $99. BEST money I have ever spent for my truck. Got the Megs pads and backing plate. The paint looks better than when I bought it and it's a 1999.

The PC 7424XP has 100 more OPM than the Meguiar's G110; 6800OPM vs 6700OPM. The 7424XP also has a more powerful motor than the G110. The more powerful motor prevents bog down caused by resistence.

The PC 7424 oscillates at a maximum speed of 6000opm, which is quite lacking to be honest. The extra 800OPM of the XP helps paint correction quite significantly.

The Meguiar's G110 has a nifty handle, which is essential, but not crucial.

Before you purchase a polisher, consider not only the price, but also the bundle deals, shipping costs, and the warranty terms.

I have the G100, and the G110. Both are great! I would look into the package deals at Auto detailing Solutions. They treat you right.

I do not have and have never used one ................ (so here is where I add nothing other than what I have read)..... I think the one sold by Groits is supposed to be between the PC (very close to Meg's) and Flex.

The XP has noticeably more power than the original PC and doesn't bog down nearly as easily! Plus I bought it for $109! It's one of the best buys around.

An interesting question and more interesting responses. Two of the best detailers in the biz, Kevin Brown and Joe (Superior Shine) selected differently and maybe they can give us their reasons for why they chose what they chose.

I own a G110 and LOVE it as it truly does an amazing job. I would recommend it to anyone, HOWEVER, my gut told me to pick the 7424xp for what I'm told is the "extra power" but also because of the 3 year limited warranty.

I think the warranty issue is probably the biggest seller for me but would really love to hear what Kevin and Joe have to say on the issue.

Nah... recommend away... it's only me you have to worry about (as you so acutely pointed out).

I will pretty much recommend anything sight unseen!!!
