  • Is this a common Pad Problem?

No, not really. It looks like it may be a backing plate issue. When did this happen, and how big is your backing plate?

      Thank you Mike for replying.
I´m using a Porter Cable P/N 18001 6" backing plate with Meguiars 8006 and 9006 pads. There is no Meguiars DA backing plate in Mexico yet.
It happened when I polished my truck a while ago, I guess I used too much pressure, but the PC never bogged down. Today, I polished my Geo Tracker and the pad completely destroyed itself, there where pieces of foam everywhere.
I don´t have this problem with my finishing pads though.

If I may comment....I am sure Mike will respond shortly....

I believe what you are seeing is the result of using too large of backing plate. If the plate is larger than the velcro on the pad, the plate's edges will dig in and cut the foam.

I would suggest ordering the Meguiar's plate from them directly via the internet. You will need plate # W-64DA

Also, what speed are you using the buffer at?

        Cheers!

          Thank You Tim.
That´s what I tough. Meguiars Mexico told me that they will have the backing plate soon.
Most of the time I polish with the PC set at 5 (meguiars maximum suggested speed for their pads), but I have to confess that on horizontal surfaces I have used it at 6

            Hey,

The larger plate mixed with too high of speed (6) was probably the cause of your pad failure. The action of the PC at speed 6 is quite substantial, and is quite hard on the pad.

I am glad to hear that Meguiar's Mexico will be getting the plates soon. But like I mentioned, you could always order it online, if you wish.

            Cheers!

                Just a follow up:

I just received my Meguiars Backing Plate W-64DA and what a difference! I understand now the importance of using proper equipment, I will never go back to my "old" backing plate.
