  • Complete package ?

Hello, I'm new to polishers but I would like to give it a try. Probably been asked before but there's so many posts here my eyes are starting to hurt, I read as much as I can. I'm very carefull and read how-to's and try to find a lot of info first so maybe I won't mess up the paint I have Silver '06 Scion Xb, the paint is in good condition, very little scratches and swirls, but there's some. I wash it, clay it then NXT it. Then I have Black '99 Civic, it's a scratch fest on the car, lots of scratches, swrils, like it was never detailed before. I just bought it for gf washed, clayed, NXT. looks better but needs some work.
Anyway being in Canada and ordering from ADS and driving to states to pick up their packages makes me wanna order everything at once. So would u let me know what I need ?

I was thiking about G110 http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/g110-kit-1.html then pads, I understand that polishing is for swirl removal and finishing is for waxes and such. Do u go fast through them ? would wanna figure out how many to order. But do I need cut pads ? couldn't find what they'r for ? And get them in 6.5 ? And also are diamond foam pads better ? sorry for so many questions.

Then what products ? on this I'm clueless, there's just way too many. It's not about the money but quality product and not regreting not ordering it, better have it and b safe, i can't just run out to store and buy it.

      Re: Complete package ?

The pads of greatest utlity to you will be the polishing pad. To start off with, I would recommend 3 of those and maybe 2 finishing pads and one cutting pad. The cutting pad is handy to have on hand as you become more experienced with the DA, but for your intial use it's a great platform on which to fit a microfiber bonnet for wax removal.

For compounds, start off with M105 and Ultimate Compound. For polishes, try SwirlX, M80 and M205. To bridge the gap between the compounds and polishes, grab some ScratchX 2.0 and maybe some M66 or D151. They all have different levels of cut, and having these products on hand will give you a diverse range of cutting ability. Generally you would remove swirls and scratches with a compound, and then go over the finsih again with a polish. Sometimes paint correction can be achieved using just a polish if the defects are light.

For commercial products, try Gold Class car wash and buy a gallon of Last Touch - awesome for detailing spray or claybar lube. You might want to get a bottle each of Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Detailer just to try them out. For wax, get a bottle of NXT 2.0 which also serves as a sealant after you finish polishing your car.

And Grit Guards! Buy two along with two microfiber mitts and don't forgthe claybar kit

          Should I get 6.5'' pads or the 7'' ?
Also should I invest in W68DA Backing plate ? http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/w68da.html

            Re: Complete package ?

The W68DA backing plate was designed for optimal performance with Meguiars Soft Buff 2.0 (7" diameter) pads, although it can be used with 6.5 inch pads. The 7" pads are machine washable, and have an inner diameter that makes centering with the new W68DA backing plate a snap.

That's a really nice starter kit, but you realize that you're getting some free pads with both the G110 kit and another free pad with the W68DA BP, right? Are you ordering 11 additional pads, or did you include the free pads with your total count? Polishing pads are your mainstay pads and the ratio between polishing to finishing pads should be about 3:1. For me, I would juggle up your pad count of 11 total to 7 polishing, 3 finishing, 1 cutting.

                  Re: Complete package ?

yes I included the freebies. 3 in kit, 1 with backplate and 6 as a combo buy.
yeah the pads I'm clueless on how many of which exactly. I got my car with very good paint, gf's civic with lots of sworls/scratches and maybe I'll do my parents Sienna once or twice when I'm bored, in fairly good condition.

CC, I thought SwirlX was more along the lines of a paint cleaner than a polish.
