  • Opinions on 3" DA Cutter/Buffer/Polisher?

I've been using a Snap-on 3" DA buffer polisher with a hookit disc and 3M polishing pad (waffle) for cutting (Maguire's 105) and polishing (205). It works, but it takes 3 passes with the 105 after 3000 grit. Two problems: 1) the disc has flown off the machine twice, even after putting some red locktite on, and 2) it takes a long time to cut with the 3M foam pad.

Any suggestions on another machine to use that won't hit me or my work in the face while operating, and can I get a cutting pad 3" in dia for small work. (I do mostly motorcycles and the big 6.5 in machine I have is too bulky, most of the time)

    Thanks,

    Scott

Re: Opinions on 3" DA Cutter/Buffer/Polisher?

        I think Griot's Garage has a 3" DA machine.....

I thought that ADS sells 3" backing plates and LC pads.....Can't remember.

edit: do you have a PC/G100/G110? These backing plates will work on those.....

Can't imagine why the pad would fly off.....

Others will chime in I'm sure so keep your chin up, your post was afternoon and takes a moment or two for people to respond

Not a big surprise that you need multiple passes with a D/A type buffer to remove sanding marks, even if they are 3000 grit. Not sure about the specs on the tool you're using but it may simply lack the power of the G110 or PC7424. You would do well to pick up either machine (of course we can make a specific recommendation between the two, but you don't really need to ask, do you?) and then pick up a small backing plate and pads from someplace like autodetailingsolutions.com or autogeek.net

That will get you a proven combination of machine and pads and should make your life easier.

By the way, Scott, we've merged your two posts on this subject into a single thread.
