  • Adapter for W68DA backing plate

Just received a W68DA backing plate and have found that the 5/16" male thread on the plate is bigger than the female thread on the Bosch PEX400AE orbital machine I was going to use with it (I'm guessing it's 1/4" or 3/8").

Would it be wise to use a thread adapter to get the pad to fit, or is it likely that the extra length of the adapter could put too much stress on the components. I'd like to avoid having to buy anther machine if possible.

Is this the Bosch PEX400AE you have?

If so, avoid using it. It is not a polisher and is orbits in speeds from 9,000rpm to 26,000rpm. It is not for paint, and possibly why the backing plate doesn't fit.

That's the one I have. Originally bought it for sanding during renovations around the house, but have finished those now. After stripping it down and cleaning it I was looking to use it on the car.

Quick search of the forum indicates others have used it so was hoping to do the same.
