  • Need a very light PC polish suggestion...

I have a '68 Camaro with red single stage paint. It was professionally polished with a rotary by a member of Autopia about 5 years or so and came out almost perfect. Over the past few years, it's developed some light swirls from glazing & waxing and such. The paint is basically almost defect free.

What's the lightest/most gentle product I can use with a PC that just has a very, very slight cutting ability. I don't need much at all.

After polishing, I'll be using a glaze followed by carnuba.

    Thanks!

A few products come to mind for this. M205 Ultra Finishing Polish is pretty good stuff, it finishes out pretty nice and has some decent correction ability.

M80 Speed Glaze is fairly light and is infamous for making single stage paint look awesome.

M82 Swirl Free Polish and M09 Swirl Remover have less cut than M205 and M80. I would do a test spot with M80 or M205 and see how that treats you.

I'd go with M205 because of the SMAT which means you could work with it in a shorter time.

Try M205 on a finishing pad. If that doesn't have enough cut, then try the yellow polishing pad.

Another option (less aggressive even yet) would be either M66 or ColorX, both cleaner waxes.

Red single stage paint just cries out for M80 Speed Glaze. A gentle approach with a polishing pad or perhaps even a finishing pad will pretty gently remove the light defects while at the same time nourishing the paint with rich polishing oils to bring out a very wet look. Top this with a quality wax of your choice (M26, hint, hint ) and the results should be stunning.

My understand of M80 is that it has some glaze in it and hence some fillers as well. I don't want to hide the minor imperfections to any degree, I want to remove them, so what I was searching for is what to use in terms of a "pure polish".

I plan on applying a glaze AFTER the polishing step.

M80 is what we classify as a cleaner/polish - it contains a diminishing abrasive that will indeed remove the defects, but also the same sort of polishing oils found in M07 Show Car Glaze, which is what adds the deep gloss to the finish.

A "pure polish" contains nothing abrasive in it (M07 Show Car Glaze would fall into this category) and therefore will not remove any defects. In fact, even though the intent of a pure polish is not just to conceal fine swirls, they do a very good job of it. That's why body shops will use a pure polish (AKA glaze - just a matter of semantics, really) to conceal their rotary holograms before delivering a vehicle back to the owner.

On single stage paint, M80 will do an outstanding job of removing light swirls, such as you've described.

Re: Need a very light PC polish suggestion...

I'll chime in with another vote for M80. I just detailed three cehicles this weekend and they always look great when I finish. I am NOT a detailing fanatic so my regimen is rather basic. I first wash/dry the car then use M80 to remove just about anything on the clear coat. I then follow up with NXT because it produces litte to no dust.

The condition of the paint before and after M80 is pretty remarkable. After using M80 and then buffing with a MF cloth the paint is so clean that running you fingertip (no nail) down the paint results in a sound similar to running your fingernail down a blackboard. There is nothing left on the car but a very clean and smooth clear coat.

I use NXT 2.0 for my final wax but I wish it lasted longer. here in Florida I only get about 2-3 months.

Although I haven't tried M80, I can vouch for M205 on the yellow polishing pad on the DA. My 8-month old Civic (soft paint) needed an ever-so-slight polish, and it came out wonderful. Didn't even need the black finishing pad as a follow-up .
I hope the Yellow polishing pad works out for you .

Given you have single stage paint, may I join in others in recommending Meguiars M80 Speed Glaze? It has very light polishing abrasives, but it also has tons of rich oils that look spectacular on single stage paint.

From what I have seen on my cars, M205 is a bit more aggressive than M80.

I would agree with the consensus. Try #80. It will work wonderful on your single stage paint.
