  • Micromarring on a 2007 Corvette

    Hi all,

I'm currently trying to polish a 2007 black Corvette using the DA. I'm a complete newbie at using this machine, though I have bought and (obsessively) watched the how-to PC video showing the classic Corvette. I've never tried it on my S2000, since its paint is in pretty good shape, but this Corvette definitely needs some polishing -- lots of water spots and swirls.

I've read various threads on the difficult nature of Corvette paint, but I nonetheless was hopeful and started first with ScratchX 1.0 (that can be used with the DA), but that, not surprisingly, didn't do much beyond removing the waterspots. The swirls remained.

I then tried M80 with a finishing pad (W9006), since I read that micromarring can be easily induced on Vette paint, but to my dismay it looks like I caused micromarring even with the finishing pad. My test spot under Xenon light looks "duller" than the untouched paint beside it with the telltale micromarring "hooks."

I suspect that these problems are almost definitely caused by my application method. Could it be that I'm using too much product or not working it in long enough? Not enough pressure?

I will attempt to take a photo and upload it ASAP. Just wanted to get some advice in the meantime.

    Thanks!

With the M80, you really have to work the product into the paint long enough to reduce the fine scratches. For one small section you are working on, you have to take vertical and horizontal strokes a few times before the product is fully taking its diminishing abrasive effect at removing micro scratches it previously created.

It is often considered that M80 is still an aggressive product. If the Corvette paint known for its marring prone finish, then you can try reducing the amount of cut of the M80 by priming the pad with Instant Detailer to effectively reduce the cut of the M80.

Where the heck in vancouver are you??

Here is a link to a C6 my friend did http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/detai...iled-pics.html
If that helps any. The clear coat on Vette's is known to be very hard but it can be done
