  • Sonus pads and swirl removal

    Hi,

I've just purchased a PC 7424 with the sonus kit and I’m planning to remove swirls from my Nissan 200sx. (aka 240sx sr20det)

I’m a little confused to which sonus pad(s) and megs product(s) I should use.

I currently have/use the following (not in this order) and the results have been good.

    DC #1,#2 and #3
    QD
    QWax
    Clay
    NXT wax
    Soft wash
    Scratch X

So to remove the swirls should I use #9 swirl remover or/and #80 speed glaze and with which pads?

    Cheers,

    Mike

    Hey,
If you can get 80 I would go with that over #9, just my personal preference.

    Ok now pad selection;
If you are going with meguiars, you want to polish with an 8006 or yellow pad.

Now it’s been a while, but for polishing with sonus pad, if you have moderate swirls I would start with a green pad. Then if you need to clean up a bit more go to a blue pad. If you car already looks good and you just have some light micromaring that needs to be removed, I would start with the blue. Then if need be advance to the green then blue.
    Good Luck.

If this is the Sonus, DAS Pad kit, then you should use #80 with an orange pad. #9 is just too mild to do anything more than remove the lightest of swirls.

You might find that you need DACP with an orange pad to remove difficult swirls and water spots. Then you can follow up with either #80 or #9 on a green pad to get rid of any hazing and to polish up before the LSP.

I found that even with orange pad/DACP, that some swirls on my 9 year old paint were untouchable. 3M Perfect It III Rubbing Compound worked better for this.
