  • Bought cutting pads with DA...doh!

Ok, so at the recommendation of..whoever...I bought two cutting pads in addition to some other pads when I ordered my G110. After reading more, I see that these are not recommended to be used with my G110. So now, I have cutting pads and can do nothing with them. Should I just sell them on ebay and pick up more polishing and finishing pads? Anybody want to trade? haha. Thanks for any input or advise!

You could use these Microfiber DA Bonnets over the cutting pads and use them for removing wax with your G110.

Hang on to them. Meguiars makes the recommendation to not use them, but they're making a sweeping recommendation covering polishing newbies to seasoned pros. If you're using a DA for the first time and use a cutting pad, you might leave holograms because of your inexperience. But in the hands of a seasoned detailer, the cutting pad is a versatile addition to your aresenal of correction tools. For immediate use, cutting pads can be used with a microfiber bonnet to remove wax. For future use, cutting pads are extremely useful for correcting hammered finishes. Two is about right for starting off, I would keep them.

+3. When I remove wax, I always use a cutting pad with a microfiber bonnet.

Cuttingpads work very well on a DA ,i use them on heavily oxydized paints in combination with M105 .
          Look what you can achieve with a DA & a cuttingpad & M105 !

Wow, ok, looks like I need to hang onto them then. Coverig them with a bonnet at least I'll still be able to use them right away :-) Thanks all!

So cutting pad to remove blemishes, hammered finish, swirls - etc.
Polishing pads to sort of spiffy it up a bit
              Finishing pads for wax

In general is that about correct?

                Not so much.

If I were you, I'd use the yellow polishing pads for everything you just mentioned. Only go to the cutting pad if the yellow pads aren't doing ANYTHING. It's rare that a polishing pad with m105 won't suffice for most of the things you'll be doing. Just keep it safe and use that cutting pad as least as possible. It's not as necessary as you think right now.

Re: Bought cutting pads with DA...doh!

The biggest thing about using a cutting pad with a DA type polisher is you want to test first, just like you would with any pad, and make sure you're getting the results you want and expect.

If you see any hazing or micro-marring left in the paint then trouble shoot to figure out if it's your pad or product and either modify your process or plan on doing a second polishing step using a less aggressive product and/or pad to remove any hazing left by the first process.

So, then, would you/could you use a wool pad with a DA or is that a no-no?

By all means feel free to use it. But before you do, be sure that it'll work in your favor, be sure that it won't harm the paint, be sure that you can fix it if you screw up, and blame your ego if you do mess up, not anybody on here or Meguairs.
