  • Backing Plate

So, I have finally worn out the backing plate that came with my G100a. What should I replace it with? I'm assuming that there is something "new and improved"?

Great, thanks. So not a W67DA?

W68DA has a flexible outer rim that aids in contouring and has a larger diameter (5.75" - the W67DA has a 4.75" IIRC) that was designed to work optimally with the new 7" Soft Buff 2.0 pads.

One more question, will the 8" pads (W8000) work with the W68DA or are they too big for the G100? I have been using the W8006 and W9006 pads, maybe I should stick with them? OK, that was two questions!

Theoretically they will work, but 8" pads were really designed for use with rotary buffers (at least that's my understanding). You also give up a lot of precision and some cutting power using such a large pad with a BP designed for smaller pads.

That's what I was thinking too, thanks again!

ClearlyCoated is right, the larger 8" pads are just too large for a dual action polisher to be effective for any kind of correction work and while you could use a large pad like that to apply a finishing wax it's still too big for that purpose also.

                        Re: Backing Plate

If you're willing to eat the return shipping on your W67DA and the cost to have a W68DA shipped out to you, then call Rick at ADS and see if he will exchange it for you. Other than that there's nothing wrong with the W67DA. I may have been incorrect about it's diameter size too. Measure it out, I think it's the same 5.75" as the W68DA - so the only diff would be the flexible outer rim.
