  • G110 on the way!

I finally broke down and purchased one a couple of days ago. I was hoping to have it by the weekend but wont be here until Tuesday!

I know there were a bunch of information using Ultimate compound and swirlX using the DA, but they have seemed to disappear? I cant find any of that anymore.

I ordered both 6.5" and 7" polishing and finishing pads. I hope I got enough. Haft to see what happens I guess.

Since I cant find what I was looking for, I will ask it here.

What speed do I use to apply the UC. A lower speed to spread it around, and then 5-6 to work it in? Does that apply with the swirlX too?

What speeds do I use for Polish and wax?

If I think of the other stuff I was wondering about, I will be sure to ask

Generally speaking, speed 5 for polishes and compounds for doing corrective work, and speed 3-4 for applying waxes and protective coatings.

      The only other one....

How long can I work in the product? How will I know when its ready to be wiped off. If it needs more, can I do another application?

I am excited to do my test spot!

            Re: G110 on the way!

I got it in the mail today. I got right to work to test it out.

I am working on it in my garage, it only has one light in a single garage.

I can see an improvment, not so spider webed, but I am not sure I am happy with it either.. Help a first timer out!

I clayed a 20 X 20 area. did that area for a good 5 mins to make sure i got all the containments out that would come out..

I ran the speed on the G110 at a 5

I started by using SwirlX with a 6.5 polishing pad. I got the pad primed. it was damp, but not soaked. I did my two passes and wiped it off.. didnt look outstanding..

I grabbed another pad and tried the UC. Primed and all of that.. maybe looked better but not 100%

Then I relized I wasnt putting any pressure on the pad.

so, I did this whole proccess over, with the UC and SwirlX with moderate pressure, where u can tell the motor is working pretty good

Still not 100% happy.. Any Idea's.. I am doing the hood, there is a few rock chips and and stuff.. but you would be able to tell the difference right?

Wont have a camera until the weekend to take pictures.. but maybe someone can chime in to help!

            Thanks

              Re: G110 on the way!

You're not doing enough passes. 6-8 passes over the same area in a cross hatch pattern is most effective. And you should only be moving the DA at a rate of about 2 inches per second, so try to estimate how fast you were moving the DA across the surface of the hood - you may have been moving too fast. Do not allow the product to dry and remember to clean your pad on the fly periodically.

I was moving really slow.. do I not have enough product? I was careful how much I used so I didnt soak the pad right away. If I do that many passes, do i need to put extra product on..

No. not really. The products you mention using are SMAT so the abrasives will not break down or diminish. If you are using enough product, 6-8 passes should be achieved easily. Are you using a few drops on the pad, or do you line a circle on the outer rim of the pad or draw an "X" across the center?

Sorry for the slight tangent, but I reviewed the "what defines a pass" thread and don't recall coming out enlightened.

Let's say I'm doing a 16'' x 16'' square with 105. I run the pad in the overlapping horizontal "zigzag", then I do the same thing but in a vertical overlapping zigzag. I guess one would call that set, 1 pass?
Then repeat ~7 more sets (passes I assume) and one is all set? It's not the number of passes with what product that concerns me, it's the definition of a "pass" that I still cannot figure out.

I primed the pad then did a circle around the outer edge of the pad and worked it in that way
