  • Backing plate question

I've been reading a lot about the dual action polisher and decided to go with one. I read that you need to polisher, pads, and the products you're going to apply. I ordered 3 polishing pads and 1 finishing pad, should have bought more, I'll do that later. I went with the Soft Buff 2.0 pads, should I have ordered the W68DA backing plate along with my G110? I didn't order a backing plate at all. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Backing plate question

Great question. The backing plate that comes with the G110 will work with the 2.0 pads.

However, to take full advantage of the centering feature of the pads / backing plate, as well as the new design you would need the new W68DA.

You'll be fine for now, but at some point, we would recommend stepping into the W68DA

      That's good news. I'll get a W68DA ordered soon.

FYI, the only sites I've seen the W68DA available has been AutoDetailinSolutions.com and MeguiarsDirect.com

          Re: Backing plate question

I used the standard backing plate with a 2.0 pad, probably had more vibration than necessary as it was difficult to get the pad centered properly.

Autogeek.net seems to have them as well.

Forget Autogeek, ADS gives you a free 2.0 pad with the order of a backing plate.

Not trying to be silly, but what is the difference between the W67DA and W68DA backing plate? The kit I bought from ADS came with the 67 backing plate...

...when I look up the 68, it looks very similar. I had no MAJOR issues today when I used it for the first time. But what the heck do I know, I'm a DA newb.

The 68 is larger in diameter to fit the new SoftBuff 2.0 pads better. It also allows you to line them up better. There are possibly other advantages, someone else will have to chime in.
