What to buy?

Ok, I have been reading the threads now for a while and I have a good idea on what I want to accomplish.

This is just for personal use, I am not out to start my own business or do my friends cars. I have a 2007 Avalanche Z71 and I want to get it back to the show room shine. Not to mention we have a 2006 G35x that could use a little work and a 2004 4runner that needs a lot of work!


What is a good starter kit to get going? I have seen what ADS offers, but is there a good thread here on what you need to get started? I have searched high and low and can't find anything like that.

The first thing you need to to is to decide if you want to do all your work by hand or if you want to invest in a dual action polisher like our G110

If your goal is removing swirls out of clear coat paints then a dual action polisher will do better work faster than your hand.

If you want to do all your work by hand then you'll want to get some Ultimate Compound, some SwirlX, lots of applicator pads and microfiber polishing cloths and then a wax of your choice.

The trick to getting good results by hand is to work small sections at at time with your compound, paint cleaner or cleaner/polish, (whatever you're using to remove the swirls and scratches.

Clear coats tend to be harder than paints in the old days, (single stage paints), and that's why people struggle to do things like remove swirls and scratches and that's why you have to only tackle small sections at one time.

After you do the cleaning step, then you can tackle large section at at time because it's only the cleaning step where you're trying to remove some paint.
