  • What 2.0 Pad/Consumer Product Combo?

I am getting the Meg's DA for Father's Day
So, my question is if I am using following

    Scratch X 2.0
    Swirl X
    Ultimate Compound
    NXT 2.0
    Plastic X

How many, of which 2.0 pads do I need?

I know ADS has the six for $50. But, if I need more/less than that...let me know.

AT LEAST, have 2 pads for each car and a pad for each product so you don't contaminate the other pad with other products.....

Say you dial your process in with Ultimate Compound, and finish with SwirlX, you would want 4 pads (8207 polish pad).....I like to have at least 3-4 pads for each car, 1/4 it out.....

When I was pad poor (and still am.....), I will use my dial in process, wash those pads and let them dry in the sun after a good whirling with my rotary then proceed and once my first pad gets saturated after a good cleaning by hand during the process, I have my other pads ready to go. I did learn to have plenty of pads on hand while using a rotary. I have about 7-8 pads now and want more. I usually label my pads, I have M83/M80 and the OTC stuff currently. I haven't jumped the line to the 105/205 line yet.....too broke right now (kids graduating school this year makes it rough this time of year).

    edit: Forgot....

8207 for polishing (SwirlX et al)
9207 for waxing if you apply your wax by machine or want a lesser aggressive approach with your polishes (UC/SwirlX/ScratchX 2.0)

7207 is not really recommended with the DA but it works in the right hands and with practice with procedure, usually hazing occurs when using a cutting pad on the DA, I used it with pretty good results to knock down swirls then follow up with a polishing pad with a lighter polish.

Since you are getting the washable pads. Cross contamination should not be a big issue. I would get at least the following:
2 7207 cutting pads for wax removal. Make sure you have a lot of microfiber bonnets.
4 8207 polishing pads. For paint correction.
2 (at least) 9207 pads for wax application

This should get you started. You can never have enough.

Nappers & J.A. thanks for the replies.

@J.A.: I assume that I would use the 9207 with the microfiber bonnets for LSP removal, right?

No. You want a stiff pad for use with a bonnet to remove dried wax, not a soft, gushy foam pad.

Our W-7006 works great for this.

This is a pretty good start up combination. Even though Meguiar's does not recommend using our foam cutting pads with DA Polishers on CLEAR COATS, there's a caveat in there in that we say you can use our W7208 on a clear coat as long as you test it first and make sure you're getting the results you want and hope for.

That said, when after you do a test spot with our W7207 foam cutting pad and you find it's working well and not leaving any haze or micro-marring behind, then it's definitely a great pad for correction work.

Just make sure the paint on your car, (the variable we cannot control along with your skill level), is reacting well to the aggressive abrading action from our foam cutting pad.
