  • New guy DA questions

I am pretty new to the whole detailing scene. I understand the basics of it all. I just invested in a bunch of products from the consumer line, DC cleaner and polish, clay bar, UQD, NXT 2.0. Having a Silverado, it's going to take some time to apply and work these products by hand.

Now I've thought about going with a DA for later on so I'm not doing this by hand all the time. There's a lot of information about what pads to use, Lake Country, Meguiar's, probably others that won't come to mind. Then there are the different types, just saw a thread talking about orange, black, and white Lake Country pads.

Is there a "start here" thread for us noobs that would like to get into using a DA. Maybe having the recommended pads from different companys, something like a cross reference "A Lake Country _____ pad is the same as a Meguiar's ____ pad, and it is good for doing this ____".

Are the consumer lines of products usable with a DA? I just read somewhere saying the NXT sealant is the same as the pro line version except that the pro version has more lubricants for use with a machine. I'm guessing since a DA isn't listed in the consumer lineup, that those products aren't good to use with a machine, though I have seen recommendations for using SwirlX and ScratchX with a machine (I think).

I'm sure there have been many threads just like this one, I just don't know what to search for to bring them forth. If there is a road map for us noobs, could it be made sticky? If not, could one be made? Thanks in advance.

Those should help some. Of course they talk about #80, where there are some new products out now. But the same ideas work. You can also look into the "How to get Show Car Results with the PC" DVD from autodetailingsolutions.

Yes, you can use the Consumer products with a DA.

Also, be sure to check the List O'Links thread in the navigation panel on the home page.

You may find this guide helpful: Dave McLean's Guide to Machine Polishing by Dual Action Polisher.

Also consider purchasing this DVD: How to Use the PC for Showcar Results.

Check out the machine polishing and DA links cited in List O' Links. You may also find helpful some of the links cited in Internet Resources for Newbs.

      Now to your questions:

Yes, the consumer line of polishes and waxes may be applied with a DA. This includes NXT. The key difference between NXT and M21 is that the latter is formulated for application by rotary polisher, in addition to hand and DA application.

      Cheers,
