  • New Guy... Use just Consumer Products?

    Hey everyone,

first time posting for me. I've searched and found a lot of useful info, just have a few more questions. I just got the PC with a pad kit and also stocked up on polishes.

My big question is: can I do all the steps needed for detailing with just the consumer line while using the PC? I've got some SwirlX, ScratchX, NXT Tech Wax 2.0, and plan on getting some Ultimate Compound this weekend. So, if I follow an order of UC, Swirlx, NXT.... am I missing any steps?

Also, any recommendations of what color pads with each (I know you all say start with the least agressive first).

I've always been a creature of habit and have always used Megs products because their always available and have never let me down, so I'm hesitant to jump on the Pro line because of my rookie status.

Thanks for listening... eager to start a project (its been raining for the past week and a half here )

You should be set with the products you spoke about.

You answered your own question though about what pad to use, in a way. Depending on your car, you could end up using swirl x with the 9006 pad and get the results you are looking for, or even the UC on the 9006. It is all in the test spot to help plan out the rest of the car.

      Short answer: Yes!

With Ultimate Compound and SwirlX, you will be set. Use the ScratchX for spot scratch removal.

Just be sure to first do a TEST SPOT. Try the SwirlX first with a polishing pad and see if that effects the paint correction you want. If it doesn't, then move on up to the Ultimate Compound.

But remember to do a test spot first! Not only do you want to determine which product is best to use on your car before polishing the entire car, but you also want to figure out your technique. If you can make your test spot look good, then you can be confident that you can make the entire car look good.

Most of use have a variety of products around from the different lines, even some Marine line products. Mixing and matching will get you some really nice stuff like the APC's, #7 Show Car Glaze, etc.
