  • Which pads to buy?

    Hey guys,

Up untill now I've been doing all my detailing by hand.

I think that now its time to upgrade to the G110. I've read lots about and I'm confident that im ready for it. HOWEVER........regarding the pads i'm incredibly confused and overwelmed with all the information on the site.

How do I know which brand, or type of pad to use for each application? I assume the polishing pads are for polishing, the finishing is for waxing, but what is a finess pad for? and what type of pad would I use for scratch & swirl removal (ie. paint correction).

On top of all that, just in case I wasn't confused enough, now I read all this mumbo jumbo about backing plates and different sizes,......ooooph, I'm getting dizzy.

Please clarify for I am a DA NEWB!

I just buy Meguiars new 2.0 washable pads.
    Some people use Lake Country.
The Benefit about Lake Country is they offer a lot of different pads instead of just 3.
    It is all personal preference.
For mild to moderate swirls and maybe severe, use a polishing pad.-4
    For Wax use Finishing.-1
For Severe oxidation use a cutting pad. -1

What is the significance of the -1, -4?

the numbers were how many I would suggest getting.
The new backing plate is meant for the 2.0 pads because they fit into the indent, for perfect centering. Also the new backing plate is more flexible, so it is easier to go over uneven spots.

            Ok so I understand correctly there are 3 types of the 2.0 pads, they are;

            -polishing
            -finishing
            -cutting

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

And with respect to the "new" backing plate, when I buy a G110 will it come with a backing plate? does it come with the new one?

They should come with the backing plate, whether or not it is new I do not know.
The Finishing, Polishing, and Cutting pads are the 3 pads Meguiars Offers.

Ok,I assume the w670a is the standard backing plate that comes with the G110?

                    Also, 2 last questions;

-1) what is the advantage of the new backing plate?

                    -2) Is there a CANADIAN on-line store that I can purchase the G110 + 2.0pads?

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Don't know which backing plate is currently shipping with the G110. Mine came back in October with the W67DA. Ask them when you order.

                      1) Carfire's previous post pretty much sums up the advantages of the new W68DA plate.

                      2) Don't know about Canadian on-line stores, but ADS and Autogeek have them and I believe will ship to Canada...

                          Re: Which pads to buy?

I know of one guy here in Ottawa selling a G110. He has a new store on ebay, I'll message you with the link.

He's a relatively new Meguiar's reseller. I've ordered through him a couple of times and can vouch for him. He has great service and better prices than any store I've seen so far.

As for pads, if you can somehow order through ADS, that seems to be the best way to go, otherwise he does have a 3 for 2 deal (but for the same price ADS gives you 6).

Nope, eshine doesn't carry the G110.
This seller on ebay is KGCCS, stands for Kyle Goebel Car Cleaning Service.
He's been doing detailing in the Ottawa area for a while now, and sells Meguiar's products only.
                              I pm'ed you a link.
