  • G110 general usage question

I have some questions in light of my second attempt using the g110.

    1) I noticed initially the pad had no problem spinning, but as it became saturated with product, I would have to apply less pressure in order to keep it spinning. Is this a common problem for others?

1b) How fast should the pad be spinning in order for optimal swirl removal?

    2) As the pad became fully saturated, I was unsure how much extra product I should add to the pad per application. 1 Application = apply product onto pad, then polish the car with a few passes.

2b) As the pad become fully saturated, I noticed that the m205 was 'sticking' to the paint more when I tried to wipe it off. So I'm confused, even though the pad is saturated I need to add more?

    Thanks.

This is normal. As the pad becomes wet with product the wet foam acts to absorb and dissipate the power coming out of a DA Polisher.

Don't think anyone's ever done any mathematical equations on this question, the big picture is that removing swirls means removing paint and it's always appeared that paint is removed best when a pad is rotating over the surface versus just vibrating or jiggling.

Have you been cleaning your pad on the fly?

Cleaning Your Pad On The Fly

Here's Cisco from one of our recent Saturday Detailing Classes learning how to clean a pad on the fly

Done correctly this will draw out some of the excess liquid in the forum and most of the spent product on the face of the pad. This will help to keep your pad less saturated and better able to rotate.

Just to check again, are you cleaning your pad often?
Are you removing spent product before applying fresh product?

      Re: G110 general usage question

I think I'm probably cleaning on the fly incorrectly or ineffectively. All I do is hold the g110 against a towel and I let the towel spin in my hand. I guess I need to grab a better hold of the towel such that more of the product gets out of the pad.

Following this line of thought, I guess a fully saturated pad is undesirable

      Thanks mike.

I use a terry cloth and hold it as Cisco does in the picture above and squeeze the pad as it's running. There is a point where you just need to go to a new pad as the original pad just becomes to saturated.....I also use my rotary to clean on the fly too. When all is done, I use 2-3 pads per car and wash inbetween if needed and set out in the sun to dry after a good spinning on the rotary It's fun to chase a kid around and soak them.....

A fluffy, cotton terry cloth towel seems to work the best. A larger nap also seems to work better then a small nap, the kind of terry cloth you see in a luxury bath towel.

The cotton nap work as well as anything to absorb liquid out of the foam and the large nap helps to slice into and break-up any residue on the pad and remove it.
