  • G220 Equivalent

    Hey guys,

Well after detailing cars passionately for 20 years, I've decided it's time to turn over a new leaf and go from hand to machine.

The problem is, G220's are hard to come by over here. Meguiars Australia has sold out long ago and are not expecting another shipment from the States for another month. Even then, with the way the Aussie dollar is at the moment, it's going to cost me $250 for a G220 which is a bit more than what I wanted to spend.

My question is: Is there another brand of DA polisher that is equivalent to the G220, with the same power etc which you guys reccommend? Is the Megs G220 just a re-badged version of something else which may be more readily available here? Or is there another similar DA by another manufacturer that works just as well which you guys know of?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

    Re: G220 Equivalent

As far as I know the G110 and G220 are each unique custom machines. I've never read a single thing suggesting otherwise.

The generic DA polisher on the market is the PC 7424, which was the same as the G100, but it has about 25% less power (fairly crucial, IMO) than the new G110, and I believe the G220 has even more power (slightly) than the G110.

The G220 is a 220v version of the G110. As you know, we designed both machines from a blank piece of paper, so there is not another "branded" machine that is the same.

While there are other DA Polishers, other members might chime in on what is available in a 220v version

        Thanks for the replies guys.

I'd be interested to hear if anybody can reccommend me another brand of DA. Are there any tips / anything I should be looking for?

I will do some more research, but if that's not successful, I'll probably just end up waiting and buying the G220. Although it's expensive here in Aus, at least I know I'm getting a good machine, backed by a Meguiars warranty, plus all the valuable support on this forum.

Not sure whether its an "equivalent" to the G220 but some brands that came into mind might be

          Flex XC 3401
Dewalt DW443 (I have this - it does the job but its really noisy)
          Bosch GEX 270AE
          Makita BO6040

I've tried the G220 before (friends) and its already in this x'mas list.

          Hope that helps

          Cheers.

You've been detailing by hand for 20 years one more month isn't gonna kill ya. It's worth the wait, I love my G220. Only other I would recommend would be the Makita BO6040 but there's no way you're going to get it at the price of the G220. The G220 is better value for money because the results difference for the Makita doesn't justify the extra cost which is more than double the G220.
Too bad you're not in SA I'd let you test drive one of my G220's

Meguiar's introduced the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher to the auto detailing world in either the late 80's or early 90's, way before all the online detailing supply websites or discussion forums even knew about it and part of the reason for this is because we were already selling the pads and chemicals for the Air-Powered DA Sander for the exact same purpose in body shops.

So Meguiar's Trainers have been showing this tool for at least that long including myself and for anyone reading this thread, this isn't a marketing ploy, this is the truth... the G110 and the G220 offer more power than any Porter Cable model and that will make a huge difference to you the first few minutes into any detail job where you're trying to remove swirls, or in other words where you're trying to remove paint.

I would reach for a G110 or G220 first if given the choice between one of these tools or the PC

It's the extra power to rotate the pad that makes the difference in effectiveness and speed.

Tim, that was very useful, I appreciate it. I will check out some of the tools you've mentioned, but it looks like (by what everyone is saying) that the G220 is the way to go.

Thanks to all for your input!
