  • Best polish for G110

I just got my G110 and very anxious to try it out. Since it's main purpose is to remove swirls then I guess megs swirl remover would be the best polish to use? I have some M105 for removing scratches but is that too aggressive?

    Thanks for any input!

    Hi,

M105 is not intended for use with a DA polisher. Only by hand or rotary. I would suggest picking up some M80 and M83. These are two tried and true products that will give you great results with your G110.

      Hi moparboy!

The question being posed technically has no answer because every situation is different, and there generally is no single product that works 100% of the time.

Also, M105 is not intended for G110 use, so just be aware of that and you might (or might not) have complications from their combined use.

As for products to use, it depends on what you are tackling, what you are tackling it on, and what you are attempting to achieve.

Generally speaking, #80 is very popular but it might not be strong enough to get deeper defects. #83 is also popular, and a step up from #80.

D151 is an AIO product that has cut somewhere between #80 and #83, but closer to #83. It also has wax built-in.

Those 3 are a good start.

After all is said and done I prefer #80 and #83 polishes. I can just about do anything I need to with one of these polishes and a DA or rotary.

Do a search on #105 and you will see some have had good results with it with a DA but I think I also recall that it was not officially recommended by Megs. Mike please correct me if I misspoke. It is twice as aggressive on the Meguiars scale as #83. I don't believe it uses diminishing abrasives like both #80 & #83 so keep that in mind if you try it.

My favorite all time DA polish.........
          M80
Perfectly made for the G100/G110/PC. You only need to use 3 dime sized drops for the first panel (would be the driver's side half section of a normal sedan hood) and then just a nickel sized drop per panel. Work it till it hazes and remove. Make sure it hazes though. The oils need to dry out or removal can be a mess.

          It is also pad dependent.
Use a soft pad and you can use it as a gloss enhancing glaze.
Use a polishing pad and you can remove some major defects.
Believe it or not, it can also leave some nice protection behind. I got 1 month of nice beading on a customer's hood......it was a test!

            Re: Best polish for G110

80's beading effect is likely due to the near perfectly level surface, not likely due to a protection film being built up.

To remain on topic, my go to products with the G110 are 80 (sooo easy to use), 83, and 105 (great by hand too).

              Re: Best polish for G110

with the G110 the pad and product are part of the variables to get the results using the least aggressive product and working your way up, #80 and #83 are two great products and i have achieved correction on many cars (pads were Polishing and Finishing), the only ones i struggled with are, our VW Golf (VAG paint is as hard as nails), and a very neglected paint job.

Now Megs dont recommend #105 for application via DA, but i have seen it done to produce some great results, but it is going to be the last resort as its the highest on the scale of aggression.

whats the car(s) and colour(s)?, how bad are the defects?

I would agree. #80, #83 are my go to products when using my G100. Works for me all the time.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll get some #80 and #83 here shortly. I have some minor swirls on my old car but the paint on my other car is faded in some spots, and with swirls as well. Im looking forward to using it.

ive had great results with 83 and 80 aswell, keep in mind that all diffrent veichles are diffrent in there ease if correction, example VW and BMW are alot harder than ford or dodge. anyway i also heard(from my supplier) that 80 is primarily a glaze and to me that means filler to hide marks, which would be great after 83 or on a pretty swirl free finish, good product non the less. also Pad selection is key, megs advised not to use the 7006 but i have tried it on pretty big scratches and when followed with less aggressive products and pads, worked well.

What specifically are you working on? Clear coat paint or single stage paint?

M80 is a great all purpose cleaner/polish and when it's not aggressive enough to remove defects in one application you can always do a second application, it's ease of wipe off and long working or play time makes it a real favorite and good for Newbies with a DA Polisher.

At this time, Meguiar's does not recommend M105 for use with any DA style polisher but a lot of people have really good luck using with dual action polishers including myself.

Why not M105 with a DA Polisher?

So use at your own discretion...

Keep your #105 and use it by hand in the nook and cranny areas that you can't get to by machine, use a foam applicator pad and use it the same way you use scratch-x, you'll be amazed

One question from a newbie and I know that it's not a black and white answer :

On a Toyota Echo ( same as a Yaris ) with swirls and a few RDS, on wich speed setting should I use my G110 with either Scratch-X / M-80 / M-83 for the best possible swirl removal.

Meguiar's recommends using the 5.0 Speed Setting for swirl removal. Many people will mark the back of their pads with a line or two using a black marker so they can see when the pad is rotating or just vibrating.

A DA Polisher removes swirls best when the pad is rotating over the surface, not just vibrating against it. So you want to use the 5.0 speed setting and usually apply as much pressure as you can without stopping the rotating action of the polisher.

Remember, in order to remove swirls you need to remove paint, so what you're trying to do is remove some paint in a careful way that removes the defects but leaves the finish clear and glossy.

Practice getting your technique down on a small area before tackling the entire car. Do a search using the terms, Test Spot.
