  • What products should I get for the DA?

    Hi,

I am fairly new to this forum and have read through many threads. I have a DA, the #80, #83, #7, #26. I was wondering what other products I can add so that I can tackle difficult cars. I have read a lot about the #105 and #151 and even #95, #82, #9, #2. I think if I have one of everything I would be in good shape ? Or should I limit myself to certain products? And should I have one pad to each product number?

    Thanks for you help.

Have you used it at all yet, or trying to stock up?

If you are brand new, getting comfortable with #80 would be the first step.

#82 and #9 are pretty similar, no need for both. And even #2 wouldn't really be needed.

Certainly would want some #105 around for spots you cant reach by DA, and many people do like it with a DA as well.

#151 is a cleaner/wax, so that is kind of for a different goal. But esp if working on customers/friends, etc, a good cleaner/wax is important for people wanting a cheaper detail.

And yes, you would want to dedicate pads for each product. I think even with washable pads, it would still be a good idea.

I have used the DA with the #80 and #83. I guess I want stock up on some other essentials. Is there anything else I should look at getting? I have seen the new washable pads and was wondering if I need to get a cutting pad that is approved for the DA to use other than for a bonnet.

I still have the regular pads. I saw that the cutting pad was recomended, but havent seen any posts from people using it yet, unless I missed them.

I have the older cutting pad, that was only recomended for under a bonnet.

I have used a cutting pad (Sonus) and 3m FCP which comes in just below #105, before on this nasty neglected car, most of the marks in the 2 photos below were from bad washing technique and other scraches from hedges. I started of with a finishing pad and #80 and worked my way up, the results i was really impressed with as this was before any refining or LSP.

            Good advice.

M80 is a very versatile cleaner/polish that will tackle a majority of paints on the market and produce very good results.

If you're detailing for money, don't get caught up into over-promising for what you're charging, that is don't be trying to get out all the defects and product a show car finish unless your charging your customer for this kind of work.

If you're just starting out then stick to making the paint shiny, not removing every single scratch. That means, wash the car, clay it and then use a one-step cleaner wax. You're done with the paint.
