  • gonna purchase a G110, couple ?'s

new member here! i decided i will be purchasing a g110. but my ? is for the meguiars softbuff foam finishing pad

    (Finishing Pad).

is this for removing wax or applying it? i'm tryin to not confuse myself after hours reading several threads... but should i assume that any "foam" pad is used as an applicator (i.e. cutting pad, polishing pad, etc.)?

if that's the case, what do i need to remove paint cleaner (dc1), polish, lsp? do i remove the products by mf towel by hand? thanks in advance!

Cutting pads are for removing defects usually with compounds, paint cleaners, cleaner/polishes and cleaner/waxes.

Polishing pads are for removing defects with mostly paint cleaners, cleaner/polishes and cleaner/waxes and also for applying pure polishes and waxes.

Finishing pads are for primarily applying finishing waxes and sometimes cleaner/polishes if you're trying to remove really light defects like micro-marring.

Just like you can choose an aggressive or gentle product for removing defects, you can choose an aggressive or gentle foam pad for removing defects or applying other products like pure polishes and waxes.

It just depends upon what you're trying to do.

What are you working on? What are you trying to do?

Typically you wipe off by hand compounds, paint cleaners, cleaner/polishes, pure polishes and even cleaner/waxes. If you want to remove a wax using a microfiber polishing bonnet over a foam pad you would use a cutting pad because the foam is stiff and that helps the bonnet to remove the wax, (think of how your hand is fairly hard/rigid when you use it with a cloth to wipe anything off, it's not gushy and soft like a finishing pad), and you typically would remove finishing waxes by machine.

The reason for this is because correctly used and applied a finishing wax is thin and completely dry, these two factors are important as it is these two factors that enable the wax to be removed by machine.

Can be kind of confusing when you're first getting started but it will make sense as you get some time behind the machine working on your car.

Have to go... have a class to get ready for!
