  • May buy the G110 - What to buy with it?

Ok, I may order me up a G110.

    Questions:

I will be using it on a pretty much brand new car with a gorgeous finish that I've been taking care of already with clay, paint cleaner (deep crystal), polish (#7), and whatever wax I choose on the particular detailing day (NXT, GC, etc).

Also will use it on a mid-90s car that has some issues. Some light scratches, strange things I don't know what they are, etc. I've used the same products on this car, and it looks good, but it obviously doesn't get out the standout problems, and there are swirls even though it's a light color.

Which products would you recommend then?

On my new car, should I stop using the deep crystal paint cleaner, #7 polish, and waxes I mentioned, if I'm going to be using the G110? What products would I replace each with? Also which pads to use with each? Again, on the new car right now, I'd just be maintaining, not correcting anything (knock on wood).

What about on the older car? What products would you recommend and which pads for each product?

Many thanks. I want to make sure I order up all I need.

The starting point for both would be #80 and a polishing pad.

You could still use the pure polish after (#7), or just go straight to waxing with a finishing pad, and then can remove wax with a MF bonnet over a cutting pad.

Thanks. So use polishing pad, for cleaning and polishing, finishing pad whenever waxing, and a cutting pad with bonnet, for removing?

        Sounds good.

What about removing the cleaner and polish? Do you guys do that by hand? Thanks!

Also - What about Scratch X? When could you use it in the process with the DA? Before M80, if needed?

ScratchX may fall into aggressiveness as stronger than Deep Crystal Step 1, maybe same as M09 and not as strong as M80. I use it for random scratches by hand, then polish.

The List O' Links 2.0 has some great threads on ScratchX, the new tubes are made for use either by hand or DA. Make sure it says it on the tube before trying to use on the DA. There are still some older ones floating around out there.

For removing the wax, you could do it by hand, or you could get a 7207 pad and a microfiber bonnet to remove the wax.

A coating of wax should completely dry before your remover it. If you correctly apply a coat of wax, it is a thin layer. These two factors make it easy for a microfiber bonnet on a stiff foam pad to be removed by machine with a G110 Polisher.

Except for waxes, everything else is removed while it's still wet after working it over and against the paint. Because it's wet and there tends to be more than a 'thin layer', these other products don't remove well by machine, so it's better to have plenty of quality microfiber polishing cloths on hand and use these to wipe off paint cleaners, cleaner/polishes and pure polishes.

                  Thanks Mike and everyone else!!!

I think I mainly need the 110 for my older car right now. When I do my system by hand on the new car, the results are phenomenal. However, I'll obviously use it on the new one if I have it, and I'm sure I'll be further impressed!
