  • Pad question Bought a w7000 ad w9000 and M82

I bought a w7000 and a w9000 and some M82 for the cob webbing in the new machs paint what should I set the speed on the DA at with the w7000 or w9000? Would UQD be a good primer still instead of M34? Would the DA with the w7000 cutting pad be good with M82? Or should I get the w8006 pad,The store was should out. So I got those two pads.

The W7000 pad are not recommended with the DA polishers however the Newer pad that just came out can be used. UQD isnt the primer you want to use you should be using QD instead. I would say get the 8006 pad instead.

as far as 82 is concerned you should be alppying it with the 9006 pads at a speed setting of 2 no more than 3. M82 is a polish i believe.

I am sure it is a cleaner. Because I have M83 but it is a aggresive cleaner. and I wanted to get something a little less aggresive. So it is alright to use the w9000 pad with a DA?

No, M82 is a polish. If your looking for something lessaggressive then go with M80.

Walmart doesnt sell pads that I know of anyway.

My bad I had to go check and yes you are right. I was wrong. Thanks for your help. I used to detail cars by hand I am just starting to leanr how to use my DA. I read the back of my package of the w9000 pad and it says it fine to use with the DA would that pad still work to clean the paint or would it be better to get a w8006.

Yes, the W9006 pad will clean the paint, but very, very little. It is a finishing pad, mainly to be used to apply waxes and pure polishes at a low speed (3-4).

I would stay away from the W7006 Pad as well because while it will clean the paint, it will most likely instill a lot of scratches and possibly mar the finish.

I would wait until you can get a W8006, then detail the Mach.

The 8" pads are usually too big for the Porter Cable DA Polishers to rotate effectively thus no swirl removal.

Haven't tried one with our G110 but even if our G110 has the power, the 8" pads are kind of big for use with DA Polishers.

I have to completely disagree... while M82 isn't an aggressive polish, it does very well on light swirling and shouldn't be used/applied like you would a wax, on speed 2-3... it can and should be used on at least 5, as that's what Meg's recommends on the PC/G110, but also speed 6. Maybe #3 can be used on 2-3 after paint has been correct with 2-3 steps, but I don't see why M82 would be used on such low speeds...

Oh and OP definitely get yourself some 8006 pads... they're my favorite pad by far (not only compared to other Meg's pads, but Lake Country as well) because it has enough cutting ability to work great with a more aggressive polish, like M83 or even M84/85, but it's fine enough where it will almost always finish down perfectly (aside from some very soft paints) with a finishing polish... I was just arranging all my pads this morning and I have about 6 LC pfw pads, 4-6 orange, 8-10 white, 2 7006, 4 9006 and 20+ 8006 pads in 6.5" size... most versatile pad by far imo

Now that I have started to use my DA more I am getting more comfortable with it.
Also I wish I could have brought the Mustang by megs open class nights because it would have made a great example of cob webbing in the paint. The car was located in LA.
