  • Solo kit with PC 7424?

I know the Solo kit is for new paint, but I got it really cheap from a friend who won it at a carshow. I've heard the pads are really good, so I was going to use them with my PC 7424.

My question is, what adapter do I need to mount the backing plate? Was the Solo kit supposed to come with one? Thanks.

The Solo System is for rotary buffers, not dual action polishers.

The kit should come with the:

W66 "Easy Buff" Rotary Backing Plate

Solo is designed for rotary use on new paint jobs.

The foam pads may work on the:

      Dual Action Polisher Backing Plate

Hopefully others will chime in on their personal use of the pads, I'm pretty sure others have used the pads with the PC. And, have used the product as their go to for polish..... Best part of Meguiars is you can do a test spot and pick and choose your products.

Solo (as you may know)is an All In One product used to remove sanding marks and then switch pads and use product to polish (the pads range as you see from heavy cut wool to finishing pad). Hence the word Solo

Hope that helps. I thought of buying the Solo polish/finish pads to use but they are bigger than the regular soft buff pads (6" of course). But the new pads are a smidge bigger.....but they are washable, too many options. LOL.

      Have fun.

Well that's good to know, thanks. Guess I'll sell the Solo kit and pickup DA backing plate and pads that will work. Any suggestions on a starter kit? (yes, I'm going to search right now, but since this thread is already going, doesn't hurt to ask)

The pads with their diamond cut grooves were designed for use with a rotary buffer, no guarantees how they'll work with a dual action polisher, let us know how it goes though...

What are you going to be working on?
What are you trying to do?

I'll be working on my red 2002 Dodge Dakota R/T, it has a good amount of swirls. I've always kept it waxed, but let's just say I haven't always followed the best practices for paint care (diy brush car washes, etc.). Now that I've done a lil more searching, I think I'm going to go with a smaller pad setup and just sell the Solo kit complete.

I currently use the Deep Crystal Cleaner and Polish and then finish with NXT, all by hand. It does a good job, but I think the DA with a mild cutting pad would do much better. It might even need a stronger cleaner/polish for better correction (still learning the lingo ).

Oh, here's the truck after my usual hand treatment, looks good to the average onlooker, but swirls are still visible up close:

Re: Solo kit with PC 7424?

You're truck looks very nice and very red...

Here's a tip for using the Porter Cable brand Dual Action Polisher, when it comes to removing swirls as your foam pads become wet with product you'll start to loose rotating action and thus less swirl removing ability.

              Two options...

Have plenty of clean dry pads on hand, as you notice the pad becoming wet with product and the rotating action slowing down, switch to a dry pad.

Look for smaller pads that will require less power to rotate.

              Note:
This isn't a sales pitch to you to buy a Meguiar's G110 because you already have the PC unit, but for anyone else reading this thread into the future... if you want to remove swirls out of the entire finish of a car using a DA Polisher our G110 was designed with more power than the PC and what this means is that it will keep the pad rotating even when the foam becomes wet with product but because like the PC it has a clutch mechanism in it it's still safe and you won't burn through the paint because if you apply too much pressure the pad will stop rotating.

Looking forward to your results... be sure to read this before you start...

Thanks Mike, hopefully she'll look even better after some work with the PC.

The PC was a gift, now that I've done some more research, I probably would have gone a different route, but it'll do. Maybe if I get really serious into detailing I'll look at upgrading in the future.

Lots of good info in the tips thread, thanks!

I'll be sure to post up some pics when it's done. It'll be a lil while tho, she's at the shop having custom headers/exhaust built for the 425ci stroker (she's more go than show, but I'm working on the show part ).

Re: Solo kit with PC 7424?

                  Mike,
A friend wants to sell me his PC 7424 Polisher. He said he got it from Meguiar's. It does not say Meguiar's. Then on Autogeek (for pricing) I saw the PC7424 was an older model like the G100. The G110 has more amps, and 6700 OPM 6th speed and more torque. Now in the Forum I see you list G220. I don't even see that anywhere. Where can I buy that? And also does it have much improvement over the G110?
Is the G110 110Volts, and the G220 for 220 Volts? I have only 110 Volts.
Finally why doesn't Meguiar's have a better package price then Autogeek? For $150 they have the G110, a hard plastic case, 2 polish sponges, and 2 MF bonnets. We have to be thrifty.

                    Dan,

See here for G110 packages http://autodetailingsolutions.com/me...0-polisher.htm (that is where I got mine and probably most here).

The G220 is for Europe and Australia.

I agree with 3 fitty. I think most of us get our supplies from ADS. There prices are good and the service after the sale is hard to beat.

100% right. ADS rocks! If Meg's won't hire me... I'll stock them next!
