  • guidelines for 83/80

I always end up applying too much product when I detail my car with each step of #83/80/NXT. When I get 1/2 way through, the product just oozes out of the pad. How much product should I apply after each 2x2 section?

From other threads, I am going to start cleaning my pads more often with terry cloth. Do I clean the pad after each 2x2 section?

ohh.. should i wash my car after claying?

    I'm assuming that you're using a PC?

When you start with a fresh a new pad, apply about an 1/8 inch bead completely around the pad(full circle). Work that into the paint. Then on your next pass apply an 1/8 inch bead around half of the pad(half circle).
The first pass, you want to get some extra product into the pad. After that, you'll only need to apply a half circle of product onto the pad. And clean your pad after every panel with a terry towel, not after each 2x2 section, and continue the half circle of product on your pad.

If you have a rotary buffer laying around, throw the pad on to the rotary buffer, and use a brush to clean the pad, then put the pad back on the PC and get back to work. If you don't have a rotary, you can pick up a cheap one from Northern Tools or Harbor Freight tools(probably about $30). But do not use the cheap rotary buffer on your car, they are not a good tool for paint correction.

Also, with the introduction of Meguiar's new washable pads, take advantage of this and buy some. When you're finished, just toss them into the washer and have a fresh clean pad ready for you when you're ready to work on your car again!

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have more questions.

just so i am clear, after the initial pass, i should apply 1/8 inch bead around 1/2 of the pad for each section? After each 2x2 section, i should continue with the same amount???

I am using the Meguiars PC 7424 with an LC orange pad with the dimples in it. My next pad purchase will be the new Megs washing pads cause I am sick of buying new pads all the time when they get dirty.

I don't have experience with the LC pads, but I use a thin bead around the pad about an inch in from the pad and do my pass, I "kiss" the pad on the section in 4 spots and 1 in the middle (12X12) and work it in and wipe off after I work it (I've seen the product go clear when done), hard to explain when it's worked in, then clean the pad on the fly and go for it again (if satisfied then move on to another section), best thing to do is a test section to get what product/pad combo dialed in.

I read the below thread when I used M83, the write up just below the pictures starts the how to with M83

        hope that helps.

You don't need to buy new pads when they're dirty...just hand wash them with dish soap. All pads are washable and the LC pads are amongst the best.

              Ditto...

Besides the washable feature there's also a lot to be said about "foam formulas" and they are different.

That's why I said amongst the best, not the best.
