I haven't used one like that, thought of purchasing one similar (Black and Decker one)before getting my G100.

Below are the specs for both, minimum on the Dewalt is 4,000 which may be high for the minimum.

I found a PC 7424 which is essentially a G100 for 109 bucks at Coastaltools.com. The Dewalt is 150 bucks.

          PC7424 Specs:
          Specifications
          Rating: 120V AC
          Amperage: 3.7
          No-load OPM: 2,500-6,000
          Spindle Thread: 5/16"-24
          Gear Drive: Spiral / Bevel
          Polishing Pad Size: 6"
          Length: 11-1/2"
          Weight: 5-3/4 lbs

          Dewalt:
          Amps 4.3 Amps
          Orbits/Min 4,000-6,800 opm
          Orbit Diameter 3/16 "
          Dust Collection Yes

          Dust Sealed Switch Yes
          Pad N/A

              Re: B+d 6121

              I have a 6121.

              It has a tighter orbit (3/16") than a G100 or G110 (5/16"), and is louder than a G100 or G110.
Weight is similar but the B/D feels heavier at the head.

The B/D 6121 seems to be a bit smoother feeling than the G100/G110, but that is debatable.
Part of the reason could be the fact that it feels heavier at the head of the machine, and/or the orbit-size is smaller.

Speed on the B/D is 4,300-6,800 O.P.M. (aka oscillations per minute).
              Speed on the Meguiar's G110 is 2,560-6,700 O.P.M.

The B/D 6121 has a permanent dust-bag attachment that looks identical to the Griot's Garage machine... Looks to me like Griot's copied it!

The backing plate is not one that screws on at the center. Therefore, you cannot change it to accommodate various pad sizes (a BIG drawback).

However- the Meguiar's SOLO pads and the new foam pads fit perfectly.
The machine itself feels nice and is BULLETPROOF.

I've sold maybe a hundred of the B/D6121's and DeWalt DW443's.
None came back to me, so either the build quality is great, or they were repaired via authorized repair centers.

Since you already have it, use it! Unless you sell it off and put the money towards a G110, the machine is high-quality and should serve you well.

As for your concerns of burning paint...

The only way you're going to burn paint is if you soak the pad in lighter fluid, light it on fire, and then proceed with your paint polishing.

I suppose you could turn the machine on, fall out of the tree you're in, hitting the car on your way down. That could cause some damage.

Question is: What were you doing up there in the first place, McFly?!? HUH?!?
