  • deep swirl marks

i have a black car and it has deep swirl marks in it. i am using a porter cable 7424 with regular pad and deep crystal polish, scratchx, and no 26 wax.

all that helps with the swirl marks but doesnt get rid of them. i was wondering what kind of pads i should get and what kind of polish/wax i should get?

i was looking at the solo one liquid system starter kit and was wondering if that would be a good investment or over kill? and what do i do after i cut to protect the paint?

any help will be appricated thanks

Which pad? get a W8006 pad and some #80 Speed Glaze and try that. Use speed 5. What kind of car? Some cars have "soft" paint others "hard as glass" paint.
The Solo system is for new paint IIRC.

The only products you're using to remove paint are your choice of pad and the ScratchX. My guess is your "regular" pad is the one that came with the PC? If so forum consensus is it's not worth using for paint work but you can use it dry with a bonnet over it to remove wax.

ScratchX is pretty non-aggressive as far as swirl removing ability by machine, like Kelly stated you need to get some M80 Speed Glaze to at least start with.

i have a 2002 lexus is300. now should i get wool pads, cutting pads, polishing pads, and finishing pads? or just the polishing pad? i will definitely pick up some m80 though..what about the swirl remover 2.0? is that as strong or effective as the m80?

thanks for the info..i will probably just buy everything directly from meguiars store online.

          Let's back up...

You're using a Dual Action Polisher correct?

If so you want to avoid the wool pads

We just introduced our NEW foam cutting pad that can be used with a DA Polisher but read the warnings also.

M80 will work on about 90% of most paint systems.

M80 is a lot more aggressive than M09 which is our most gentle cleaner/polish. It is a good follow-up polish after M80 if you have haze left in the paint.

Just remember to do a Test Spot before going over the entire car.

                Re: deep swirl marks

Just when it needs it. You're removing a very-very-very-(get the idea?) thin layer of the clear coat to bring it down to the depth of the swirls.

This thread is on removing bird droppings by hand, but it's the same idea. You're just using a DA instead of your hands.
