  • PC Backing plate, issues

Well, im some what new to the whole car detailing life style but this is more of a technical issue and im not 100% sure where to put this. So mods, feel free to move this where ever.

I recently purchased a Porter Cable 7424 along with a DAS Flex 5' backing plate. Well I finally got a chance to use it and had a issue with it. As soon as I applied pressure to the buffer, it began to lose power, I took it apart and found that the 4 round things on the backing plate were desteroyed from most likey the counter weight.

So my question is, did I order something wrong or am I not doing something right?

    EDIT
Here is a picture of what I mean,

    Hi:

The design of the backing plate varies depending on the manufacturer.

To correct your problem with this plate you will have to but a spacer on the threaded stud before attaching the plate to the PC. Porter Cable supplies a hard fiber washer for this when you purchase the Porter Cable 7336 sander-polisher. The one they supply is about 1/8" thick; not sure what thickness you will need for your plate.

    Hope that helps.

Would it be possible to just make my own spacer?

You probably could be it would be better to just get the right backing plate for the tool. The store that sold you the DAS pads should carry them and we offer a really nice one that is manufactured in a way that makes it a one-piece unit so the Velcro cannot de-laminate.
