Polishing tips on tight places?

What are the tricks about polishing in tight places such as under mirrors, the 90 degree intersection of the truck lid and plastic bumper? Is certain pads needed so you can polish on edges? I primarily use a 5-in pad with a 5-in backing plate.

You could try using a 4 inch pad to get in those tight spots. If that doesn't work, I guess the only way to do it is by hand.

In the tight places for me. I generally use the high tech applicator and do it by hand. It is about the best way I can think of.

Well I just purchased this, a Metabo 3inch polisher. Now waiting for my 4inch pads to get here. This should make it a lot easier to work on pillars and tight spots.
I'll give you an update once done.

Masking tape for correction but if just waxing i put my hand just above or under the pad (12/6 o clock) for horizontal trim and work along the surface, seems to get to the edges without covering the trim in white polish but your fingers will certainly feel the virbations. i just realised that i have missed the point, under mirrors is quite tricky and by hand and smaller pads is an option (except that the head of the machine will need to be nearly directly above the position u want to polish)

This can vary between cars, some will have more tight spots than others depending on the design. I think that sometimes you won't have any other choice but to do it by hand. The important thing is that you don't completely ignore that spot since on some cars depending on the condition of the paint you may notice a difference in how it looks between both areas. I would just go over it by hand if it's really tight.
