  • Would a tooth brush work to clean a pad?

Would a tooth brush work to clean a pad? Last I used the pad I cleaned it "on the fly" I think it is called. I need to clean it well this time. Could a pad be put through the wash. I am going to be working on my paint non stop tommorow to get my car ready for the car show which is on tuesday the 6.
    Thanks Alexander

    Hey,

The use of a brush for cleaning a rotating pad is for the rotary buffers only. If you attempt to use a toothbrush on a rotating/jiggling pad on the DA, the pad will most likely fly off. But if you mean, brushing the pad itself (without the DA running) then yes, it will help to dislodge any product build up that has dried on the surface.

Another thing to try is to lightly mist the pad with M34 Final Inspection etc and then brush it. After the build up has been loosened up, then place the pad on a clean towel and run the DA so that the loosened build up goes into the towel.

No a pad should not be put through a wash. Meguiar's does not recommend washing its pads.

Sure...but that would be a more expensive way to go. I would suggest then getting a small bottle of Quik Detailer and save the UQD for the paint!

When I place a towel or brush against a running PC it stops turning! Does that mean my PC is near the end of it's life??? (I hear the G-110 calling........)

Now cleaning the pads on the Makita works much better! I bought a dedicated pad cleaning brush from ADS and it works great! Plus it is much bigger than a toothbrush.

A toothbrush does work very well cleaning dried product off the foam pads. The only issue is the size. A really big toothbrush would speed things up a bit.

It did take me a while to clean my pad that contained scratchX.

For pad cleaning after detailing, I spray Dawn Power Disolver on the pad, let sit for a few minutes, then scrub with an old tooth brush under running water ( wife hates me doing this in the kitchen sink - but whatever!) and let it air dry. You can use paper towels to speed up the drying.

Thanks for the info. I spent 5 min scrubing the pad and when i use it a buch of white powdery dust goes everywhere from the last time I used it. Should I spend more time cleaning it?
