  • I think I finally figured this beast out!

I spruced my car up a few weekends ago with 83 followed by 66 with my G100. I noticed that was what appeared to be micro-marring, or maybe just over working the product. I didn't think too much about it at the time.

However, I realized I needed to change my methods. One product per pad (unrelated). However, I marked them on the top of the pads, to where I could see the product number while looking down at the DA polisher (just outside the velcro). I started using it and realized something. The DA was just vibrating, not spinning! It would make maybe a quarter resolution, and then go back, and another quarter, and so on. So, I lightened the pressure I was applying and it rotates now as well as vibrates!

I'd like to thank Joe (superior shine), as an indirect fix to my incorrect methodology. I noticed he had the product name/number written on the top or side of the pad so I did the same. And because of that I found out I was doing something wrong.

Once again the guys here at MOL have saved the day!

So I guess you were just pushing too hard? That's cool that it wouldn't spin when you applied too much pressure though, shows that the thing is built to try and make it as hard as possible to mess up. Glad to hear you got it all worked out.

Make sure you clean the pad on the fly frequently. I clean on the fly after every application so the pad doesn't get saturated with product.

Glad you found a way to correct your method
And clean your pad on a fly and clean it often, like Aaron said this will prevent the pad from saturating itself and it will be lighter

When your pads become wet with product the wet foam will act to diminish the torque delivered to the backing plate and the result is you'll lose rotating ability with the Porter Cable Unit.

Our new G110 doesn't appear to be effected by saturated pads, at least that we can tell because it has more power.

So if you're using a G100/PC DA Polisher, if your pads become wet with product, try cleaning them on the fly or switch out to a dry pad and watch how your rotating ability shows up again.

Yeah, I've really found the value of cleaning up as you go on the 83. The stopping of rotating was with a fresh pad. So I'm pretty sure I was pushing too hard. The information knowledge on this board is great!

That is great. You fixed your problem. I am glad that you were able to get the finish you wanted. Like everyone else says clean your pads often. Way to go.

What kind of car are you working on?

If it's a vette, finishing with the pc, a finishing pad and M80 works pretty well for eliminating those pesky micromaring issues.

Given that your id is navyblue2000, I'm assuming you drive an NBM vette.

Very close. My first car was a NBM 2000 Camaro

Cleaning Your Pad On The Fly

Hi Mike as for cleaning your pad on the fly and using different pads for different products, I don't think I think there is anything about using a different terry/micro towel for each pad as well which I maybe mistaken just strolled throught for the key points and all.
