  • The Essential & Necessary Pads?

Can someone here PLEASE tell me if you only could purchase the MOST necessay pads for a G110, in order to use compound, polish, and wax, what would they be and how many of each?
I am looking at a tempting G110 Kit for $199.99 BUT would like to compare price If I bought what I needed separately to the price of the kit.

Re: The Essential & Necessary Pads?

There are really only 2 pads reccommended for use with the G100 or G110. They are the W8006 polishing pad and W9006 finishing pad. How many of each you need depends on a few things.
    • If you are doing this for yourself only or for other peoples cars
    • What your process is ie, how many products you will use.
Of course the number of products you use and which ones those are will vary depending on each cars condition and what your goals are for them so giving you a specific number is really difficult.

The best case scenario is to use a pad for one type of product only. While this is ideal, it isn't always practical, especially for those with a limited budget and not doing this as a business.

In order to keep the product and pad working at maximum efficiency, it is best to use multiple pads for one product to complete an entire car since as they become saturated with product they become less efficient.

If your only doing your own personal cars I would suggest starting out with a minimum of 3 polishing pads and 1 finishing pad. Depending on what process is needed, that should get you through a single car applying something like M80 and then some wax. If you intend to add a pure polish like M7 after the M80, you can either wash the pads after the M80 or have a nother set of pads for the polish. If washing the pads, you won't be able to complete the car in one day so keep this in mind. I wash mine and wait at least a day for them to totally air dry before using them again.

I have started out with 3 W8006 and 1 W9006 but intend to purchase more getting 4 more W8006 and 2 more W9006 pads. For me, that won't even really be enough but will help until I can build up to even more pads so I can get to the point of dedicating a pad to a single product and have enough to complete and entire car depending on what it needs.

I hope this will give you a guide make the decision that's right for you.

TKS - that helps alot. I am not going into the detailing business or anyghing like that - I am a retiree on LIMITED income and just trying to find out the bare minimum so to speak and then take it from there. This is a good start.

Glad it was helpful. Also keep in mind if you have multiple cars the products that work well on one car may not work on the others due to differences in the paint and what type of correction your seeking if any at all. You may use M80 on one car and M83 on another. Just make sure if your using minimal pads you also "clean the pad on the fly" this will help it last longer before switching to the next pad. If your going to wash them, make sure they are fully dry before using them again.

        Good luck.

I'm afraid I will be going against Meq's recommendations concerning these 2 pads that you use.....IF.....I purchase the
G110 Kit which comes with a total of about 10 pads - none of them Meq's........BUT as they say "The Price, she is RIGHT!".

Lake Country pads will work with Meguiars products, but it is harder for us to find any problems you may have getting a flawless finish as most of us are not familiar enough with them.

But as long as you are not using cutting pads, you should be ok.

You basically want to only use polishing pads with the PC, or at least only until you have a lot of experience.

Me too. I am thinking about getting 2x 8006 and 1x9006 working until the 8006's are saturated. Then I am done for the day. Next time I wash, same thing. This will ensure I do guality work on a small area. When I can do that correctly, I will buy more pads and try more small areas.

Re: The Essential & Necessary Pads?

                My humble opinion.

I have two pads for each product used:

8006: 2 for each, M83/M80/M09 and one other 8006 for Deep Crystal step 1 and extra just in case. I also use the pad for Color X for maintaining the finish.

9006: 1 for each wax I PRIMARILY use, M26/M21/NXT. I also have an extra one for misc like ColorX if not using a polishing pad and Gold Class as it's a good wax too and just in case.

7006: tried it once and gave my car some cool looking holograms (not the baseball cards we boys frequently wanted) and leave it set aside until I learn the rotary some more

I clean on the fly a lot when polishing cars as I learned that if the pads get saturated too much, they will not spin, then it is a single action polisher rather than a dual action

I try to use one pad for each side of the car, drivers side, hood - one pad, passenger side, trunk - one pad etc. etc.

ALWAYS do a test so you use the right products too
