  • Enquiry on Pad + Liquid Combination

    Hi Everyone,

I have a few enquiries on the pad and liquid combination.

    1) Could M83 be match up with the 7006 cutting pad for polishing? (or it is still advisable to go to the max of M83 + 8006 combination) - Either on a RB or DA.

    2) Is there a cure time for M83, M80 and M82 before we could start with another round of cleaning/polishing or waxing (after we whip it off after each buff?)

Thanks and happy detailing to everyone.
    Cheers,
    CH

    1. Unless you know what you are doing and the risk of scouring and steps needed to correct, it is NOT recommened. With proper technique the 8006 pad can correct a myriad of paint defects.
    2. Nope, there is no cure time. You work the product in till opaque somewhat then wipe off. #83 has a play time, in a square foot section, of about 30 secs to 1 min, and #80 at about 2 mins give or take depending on temp. Only waxes and UQD have a cure time.

Cutting pads are not recommended for use with the PC. However, #83 can be used with a polishing, cutting, or wool pad when used with a rotary polisher.

Furthermore, once you have reached the PC's limit, which is #83/8006 pad, then you can proceed to a rotary with the new #105/wool pad or 8006, providing you are experienced with it, knowing what needs to be done and the risks. Then finally you can do a softer final polish on the #105 work with the PC with something like #81.

so is the 8006 has lesser cutting power than the LC orange pad??? Would you use a LC orange pad with M83 or 8006 pad with #80??? (for moderate swirls)

                    Read this,
Cutting Pads with the PC - Is this a good idea?

                    Look at the picture...

And keep in mind, even if your NOT working on black paint you're likely still scouring the paint but if the color is white or another light color you're eyes may not be able to see it taking place.

The bigger point is that in all our years of detailing cars and showing people how to detail cars, we're always able to fix everything with a W-8006 foam pad and not a cutting pad and when we can't fix it with a W-8006 pad on a DA polisher then in most cases it's time to break out the rotary, hire someone that knows how to use a rotary or learn to live with the defects, not get more aggressive with the DA polisher.

                    Then read this,
PC + 83 not "Cutting" it! (The Limits of Dual Action Polisher)

                    Then read this,
Which products need to dry before removing?

Waxes need to dry, then after wiping off the residue the protection ingredients left behind need to cure or set-up.

UQD does not need to dry, you mist it on, spread it around and immediately wipe off the excess. After you wipe off the excess the polymers left behind have to cure or set-up.

                      There's a technical difference.

Yup, you're correct, that response was given solely to the M80/M82/M83 cure time question as an example of what products do in fact require curing.

No doubt, glad you guys are here, and I'll be the first to say that your knowledge and expertise in particular is a given at least to me...definately!! As we all know MOL really stands for Mike P. Online But honestly, since that wasn't what he asked, I simply replied to his question with a passing example to reiterate the point, and I didn't feel that a wax drying elaboration was called for in that particular response, that's all. But I'm certainly happy that you covered it with the additional info. Thanks as always Mike :-)
