  • 7424 and 8" pads

I'm wondering if I have to do anything special to use an 8" pad on a PC7424 DA. I know 6" pads are used most of the time with the unit, but given the size of aircraft I'm wondering if using a larger pad would speed up the process. Would I need to change out the counterweight or not. Or is the whole thing just a bad idea?

The larger surface area of the larger pad will **** out all of the energy/power of the tool and it won't hardly rotate at all, this will leave you with a pad that is vibrating against the paint but with even less effectiveness than a smaller pad because now your pressure is spread out over a greater area.

    Does that make sense?

You want to stick with the smaller pads and have plenty of them on hand and ready to go.

Makes sense, I was just wondering.

Would the same issue apply to an air driven DA, or aren't those suitable for polishing / wax application?
