  • got an old craftsman will it work?

figured id get some 6 inch pads from meguiars and go to town. anyone used one of these...i know its only 20 bucks but i used it a couple weeks ago to buff a bed i wet sanded and it took a while but it worked (buffer died) what you think of using it with some polish to get some orange peel out?

This is what's referred to as an orbital polisher. I really suggest you look through my orbital guide before doing anything.

To truly 'flatten' or remove the orange peel, you are going to have to wetsand. I believe that you are working on a Blazer, so the whole wetsanding to flatten concept is out of the question.

In some cases, you may be able to remove some of the peel with a rotary. I'm not sure it is possible with an orbital. You may remove some light swirls with an orbital, but that's about it.

My suggestion: Polish the paint to remove the swirls and other defects and live with the orange peel. It's frustrating, but the only other option would be to have the car repainted and then wetsanded.

thanks...i didnt think it had the cahoones to tackle it lol.. like i said i did the truck bed but it was already sanded...ill get my buffer fixed and see what i can do. until then im gonna hit it with the cleaner and get the wax off ans polish it a couple more times...i figure 5 or six coats of carnuba may give it the illusion of a good paint job...(ps the z06 that was on the lot...looked worse than mine and it was red!!! gm paint baby!!)

another question...im thinking of using this to remove heavy swirls from a nissan (black) it run 3800 OPM and its single speed think it'll be ok to use with scratch x (its immediately availible) or should just use some dc polish or something.
