  • Wondering if I need to pick up some more stuff

So I just bought a DA polisher for work on my cars. I have a few dark cars with light swirling so I wanna make them 'pop' again.

I got M83 for the medium swirls, and then an M80 that I was gonna follow it up with, and then M22 for the sealant followed up by a new carnuba wax.

I'm starting to read that the M80 is a little more of a cutting agent than I thought. Do I need M82 to follow up after the M80 to really bring the wetness back? Or a nice car glaze?

    Thanks all

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

If the paint you're going to be working on has swirls and scratches then historically the minimum you're going to want to start with is M80.

M82 is so gentle that it won't do much for most paint jobs as far as removing defects goes. (removing defects means removing some paint).

    There's two points of view...

Enthusiasts looks at a product line M80 in our Professional Line and thinks it's too aggressive.

A seasoned Professional in a body shop looks at our M80 and considers it so non-aggressive that they've got no use for it and grabs an aggressive compound.

So how aggressive a product is can seem like too much from an enthusiasts point of view because they tend to be on the cautious and even scared side of the conversation because they're afraid of doing harm to their car's paint but the truth is, M80 is not that aggressive of a product.

Just remember one thing before you go hog wild...

Do a TEST SPOT to one small section of the car and make sure you can make this one small section look good before tackling the entire car.

We've typed this so many times that it should be common knowledge by now but it's not, thus the recommendation to you and everyone as the enter into machine polishing.

For most people getting into machine polishing... the thing they tend to need the most of would be the W-8006 Polishing Pads as the cleaning process is the most effective when the pads are not saturated and as you'll soon find out, as you work around the car your pad will become saturated and if you pay attention to the rotating performance of the pad you'll see it doesn't rotate as well when it becomes saturated as compared to when you first start out with it and the inside of the pad is still dry.

It's about how wet foam soaks up and wastes power instead of transferring it to the surface.

Buff out a few hundred or even thousand cars and this point will be driven home. So if anything, invest in more polishing pads.

When we go to work on a customer's car, we like to have a pad for each panel minimum.

      Hope this helps...
