  • Was I Misled?

I called one of the local auto paint stores today here in Houston and by chance they had a G100 in stock that they ordered from Meguiar's. When I got there it was actually the 7336 PC. The guy at the shop said that it was the one Meguiar's sent. I told the guy that I researched that exact tool for about two weeks and it couldnt be from Meguiar's because it didnt have the Meguiar's logo. Ok, I understand that.

Here is my question. He got a Meguiar's rep on the phone and the rep said that the 7336 is the same exact tool as the Meguiars polisher. But I thought the 7424 was the same too. Because when I asked about the 7424 the rep had no idea what I was talking about.

I didnt buy it because he still wanted like $230 for the 7336 and said it was still covered by the lifetime warranty from Meguires. I am sure I did the right thing by passing this up...But what is the exact differences from the 7424 and the Meguairs Branded PC? and the 7336 (It could of been the 7339 I am thinking now)

    Thanks

    Re: Was I Misled?

in short its the same machine.

If meguiars is saying you've got the warranty what do you got to lose.

but i do believe it should have the MEGS logo on it.

as far as i know i thought the main difference between the two was the counterweight. the one you were offered has a balanced counterweight which they say comes in handy when you use larger non-OEM pads.

    they do the SAME JOB!!!

The 7424 has a 5 inch counter weight, the 7336 has a 6 inch counter weight, that is the only difference. If it doesn't have the Meguiar logo on it, it's not covered by them. You did the right thing by not buying it.

              Re: Was I Misled?

              I have both the 7336 and G100.
The 7336 has a Porter Cable sticker, the G100 has a Meguiar's sticker.
On the side the G100 also says 7335 in small print.

                Re: Was I Misled?

                Hey,

                Walk away from it!

                The Meguiar's G100 or PC 7335 with a 5" counter balance weight
The PC 7336 same body, power etc but has a 6" Counter Balance weight
The PC 7424 same body, power etc but has a 5" Counter Balance weight

As Mike Pennington said, if it does not have the Meguiar's sticker on it, it is not a Meguiar's unit.

Sounds like you did the right thing. I wouldn't give them future business either. Who knows what other products they might try and pass off to an unsuspecting customer. They sound like standup people.

Furthermore, please notice one part of information is missing, that even if it was Meguiar's unit lifetime warranty is not honored unless unit was purchased from Meguiar's. You can find more on this by searching this forum.

I agree. You did the right thing by walking away. Unless the store has helped you out tremendously in the past,I would do the samething to that store walk away.

Mike: I purchased my G100 from the display truck 3 years ago and it didn't have any Meguiar's logo on it. Jose said the Meguiar's warranty is valid because they record the purchase. Is that correct?

                            Re: Was I Misled?

To honor a warranty the Machine must be Meguiar's G100 Dual Action Polisher and must be purchased directly from Meguiar's. We are not aware of any machines being sold by Meguiar's with different part numbers or missing our logo. In addition, if we have a record of your order that will be enough to cover you.

So you're saying that all of us who purchased a G100 from ADS, or any other reseller, don't have a warranty? That's a poor policy.

How about an example of why that isn't right: I buy a Dewalt drill at Home Depot. Why? Because I can't drive to Dewalt and buy it directly. Now let's just say I have a problem with that drill. Dewalt doesn't tell me there's no warranty because I didn't buy it directly from them; they tell me to bring it back to where it was purchased. Home Depot replaces my drill and I'm on my way.
It's only weird because it's not normal
