DA Polisher - What is a good array of polishes to have?

Hello,

I bought a 94 MR2 a while ago and about a month ago I got a porter cable dual action polisher. I also ordered some Sonus products at that time as well, and got to work.

The car was pretty neglected and while there was a large improvement after I was done, I'm still not quite satisfied as there are still a good amount of noticeable scratches in most areas, and by then I had already run out of polish.

I would like to order some meguire's brand polishes to try, however I'm not sure what is a good assortment of Meguire's products to have on hand.

Can you guys give me a recommedation on what type of products I should have on hand (a toolkit if you will) in order to cover most situations when it comes to polishing with my polisher?

The most commonly used products (at least for me) are, starting from the most aggressive and going to the least #83 DACP, #82, #80.

And don't forget that the pads are also rated in aggressiveness. From red being the most then white, then tan (I think).

well working with a DA will certainly help. a good variety of product is also a good idea.

you can try and get your hands on the following. M80, M83. both of these products are awesome for swirl removal. M80 is an excellent product that can remove swirls and leaves no micromarring and has enough oils in it that you don't even need to follow it with a pure polish if you don't want to.

M83 is more aggressive then M80 and is to be used when M80 isn't cutting and getting the job done.

remember least aggressive product first.

i'd probably regularly stock the following.

M80
M83
NXT
a pure polish - like #6, #7
Quick Detailer for when you clay and for removal of dust in between wax jobs
Microfirbres
3 W- 8006
2 W- 9006
1 W- 7006
2-3 Microfibre bonnets

if you want to get yourself a Polymer Sealant like M21 is an LSP (last step product).

i keep a bottle of QD in my trunk in a mini plastic tool box with an MF just in case.

Here is a good collection to start with:
#83 - very helpful at removing medium defects - deeper swirls and scratches
#80 - a must for everyone with a polisher - removes fine swirls and leaves a VERY nice shine
#7 - my personal favorite polish for dark shaded cars

ScratchX is very handy to use to remove defects without a machine.

The PC can use the yellow polishing and tan finishing pads. Some people with plenty of experience can use the burgundy cutting pad, but it is not suggested for most people.

ahhh i just finished a thread w/ mike about how #80 may be too much for monthly upkeep, if u wash by hand and don't leave many swirls, he was saying #9... no one else seems to talk about anything milder than #80?! But #80 cant be used for monthly upkeep cleaning?!

Depends on a lot of factors such as how aggressively is the M80 being applied, besides the product itself, application material and application method are also direct factors as to how aggressive a product is.

So application material - 8006 pad... and application method? meaning pressure applied? So if we don't press hard, its a gentler cleaning that may be okay for regular cleaning? Thanks again for your help, im new to this whole thing

Just a little correction:

#83 - Medium Strength Cleaner
#80 - Mild Cleaner
#82 - Very Mild Cleaner

And for the pads:

7006 Cutting Pad - Maroon
8006 Polishing Pad - Yellow
9006 Finishing Pad - Tan
