  • How long do your PC's last?

My second one just died today. This is two PC 7424 I have gone through in three years. Curious as to the life other people are getting out of them? I think I am finally going to pay some more and get a G-100 from Meguiars.

How often do you use your PCs? Are you a professional detailer?

Given what I've heard about the hardness of Corvette clearcoat, maybe you could go through a PC per year!

I am not a pro detailer but my 7424 has seen many vehicles large and small, its still running as it did when I first purchased it 4 years ago.

I don't use it all that much. On average two 6-7 hour secessions a month and and 2-3 45 minute waxing secessions a month.

I never run it at 6. 4-5 for polishing, 3 for waxing.

It still cycles on occasion. But when I go to turn it on, nothing happens. Then out of the blue after not going on, I'll go to turn it on and it will start up. I'll use it. Turn it off and go to move to a new section and nothing. Not sure if there is a short some where. Just curious what kind of life people are getting out of them as to whether I should be looking to get it repaired or just trash it and get a new one.

I bought my G100 11 years ago. I've used it heavily over the years detailing around 150 -200 cars a year for 10 of those years. I have my PC serviced annually. That means lubrication, replacing brushes and an occasional power cord or power switch. I have a friend who runs an ACE hardware store who services this unit for me. I'd consider it darn rugged. I'd suggest having your local ACE or other repair place look it over.

Sounds like a problem with the power cord.

I am a pro detailer that uses the PC HARD!

I have had only to change the power cord on a few. I still have the first one I bought in 1995.

We need to see a video of Lt1Corvette using his PC. Could be VERY interesting!

Maybe you are doing something too tug on the cord, and loosen it up inside?

Does everyone have the PC serviced every year or so? What does that cost?

I would not have it serviced. Like all power tools, they could last forever or burn up the first day you use it. I would not recommend anything until there is a problem with it.

don't these machines have lifetime warranty on them?
