  • Merry Christmas to Me!!

My gf and her mother are pitching in and getting me a G100 for Christmas, SO PSYCHED to get my black back to gleaming and get rid of those nasty swirls.

I want to make sure I get all that is needed so I am not left empty here. I know the polisher, but backing plates, pads, etc??? anyone that can give me a hand it will be appreciated. Thanks!

Browse autodetailingsolutions.com for the packages, etc. Here are some links to the G-100 products and process.

Using the G-100 to remove swirls with the Professional Line

You'll have to see if you want one of the packages with lots of products, or maybe just the package 1, with the G100 and backing plate, and then order some spare pads, products ala carte.

        Re: Merry Christmas to Me!!

That article on the G100 and swirls is right up my alley, great info. What I am also wondering is what do you think my chances are on this. It is a black finish with some metallic fleck, but the swirls and haze are very noticeable in light. Especially on the hatch. It looks great right after a wash but an hour later they come back again. I already did a detail but I am thinking because of the color and the depth of the swirls that I did not have enough pressure or motion by hand to get it done right. Hence using a G100 to really go at it without fear of burning paint since I have never used a machine before.

I would for sure get the PC DVD, the best money I ever spent on detailing. If you using #80 you don't really need to worry too much about burning the paint. Check out this thread... How much paint are you removing.

          Good luck!

Well.. I would say your chances of something happening are pretty good.

Rotary vs. PC vs. Regular Orbital Buffer

Black can be intersting to work on. If it is super soft, you may need to play around a little and go milder than #80 and a #8006 pad to get perfect results. But start with #80 and #8006 and go from there.

              Re: Merry Christmas to Me!!

thanks Again Murray! I am not new to detailing but when it comes to using machines I am in the dark since I have always done hand work. (I was gonna put jobs in there but decided to stay away from the pun).

So an 8006 pad and some #80 sounds like it will do nicely. Would you recommend Mirror Glaze or NXT wax? I have always used Mirror with good results.

And finally, I think for now can I use a microfiber to remove product?

                Re: Merry Christmas to Me!!

Mirror Glaze is actualy the fancy name for the Professional Line of products. There are several waxes in the line, so which one you like is up to you. I personaly like #21 Synthetic Sealant instead of Nxt.

As for removing, the general idea is like this:

                1. Remove polishes/cleaners with a Supreme Shine MF towel, or other good quality towel.

                2. Remove the wax with either a MF towel, etc, or a MF bonnet over a 7006 pad. Some people find it easier to remove the first coat of wax by towel, and then use the bonnet+7006 pad to remove the 2nd coat. You will get a nicer shine with the bonnets, but of course it is a couple extra things to have to buy.
