  • tempted to buy G-100a

I've attended a meguiar's saturday class and went to a open garage night.

Lately I've been kicking myself for not getting one.

Can someone double check my list before I place the order.

G-100a (comes with W64DA Backing Plate and one W8006 Soft Foam Polishing Pad)

    all that's left is

1 each W-7006 SOFTBUFF™ Cutting Pad (For use with the the Gold Class Bonnets)
1 each W-9006 SOFTBUFF™ Finishing Pad (For use applying NXT Tech Wax)
    #80 Speed Glaze
X4003 Gold Class Clear Coat Safe Microfiber Bonnets 2-Pack (why can't I find this product on the website?)

I recall in the class that M80 speed Glaze and NXT Tech Wax were used on the demo car after the clay bar treatment. I knew we were getting rid of the scratches but was the M80 actually cleaning the paint?

So this brings up my next question is M80 a cleaner/polish or pure polish product?...I'm still not sure even after reading the product description.

Does anyone remember what the deal was after attending a class...for the G-100a? I think it was offered for a discounted price & free shipping?

I know Mike mentioned that we had time to think about this...but I'm just upset I sat on the fence this long

As someone who made a similar order not too long ago, let me suggest that you also get some #83 and another 8006 pad to use with the #83. I didn't think I would need the #83, but I ended wishing I had gotten some. Just a suggestion...

List doesn't look bad, though you might want a few spares of pads, etc. Give a browse over at autodetailingsolutions.com, they have some nice cases of pads, etc, if you are able to spend a little extra on spares.

I assume you already have the actual products to use?

      For your questions:

      1. #80, #83, and #9 are cleaner/polishes. They will remove swirls and clean the paint. #80 is kind of the go-to starting product.

      2. Well, not sure, but again, browse ADS, you might get a good price if nothing else.

I would order three 8006s and three 9006s. There's nothing like getting half way though a detail and reaching for a non-existing second pad.

Consider getting some #83. Sooner or later you WILL come across some paint defects that require a little more "oomph" than #80.

Both #80 and #83 contain abrasives that remove surface defects by removing tiny amounts of paint. (Srcatches, swirls etc. are gouges in the paint surface. You don't actually get rid of them. They disappear when you bring the level of the paint surrounding the defects down to the level of the defect with abraisives.)

I have always found Meguiar's terminolgy somewhat confusing. The use of #83 or #80 is refered to as cleaner/polishes. The abraisives in the formulas are the cleaners, the polishes are oils that enhance gloss. To me, cleaning means getting rid of dirt. That is not how Meguiar's uses the word cleaning.

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong!

Well, if you started with Meguiars, everything else would seem confusing...

But cleaning does include dirt and swirl removal, it is just that washing removes the big loose dirt, and cleaning removes the more microscopic dirt in the pores of the paint.

This, from a Legacy 2.5i owner? As a Legacy GT owner, I'll have to take your post under advisement!

(It only looks good because Mike Phillips detailed it!)

              Re: tempted to buy G-100a

              thanx everyone for the relies

checked out the ADS site...can't believe how cheap things are on that site

it does come with the lifetime warranty for the G-100...what happens if i need it serviced...who does it get sent to?

Next few questions I have deal with waxes

is the A-Line...Deep Crystal System Carnauba Wax step#3 safe to use with the G-100?

or should I stick with the NXT Spray Wax to use with the G-100?

reason I ask which wax is safe to use...I have some left over bottles that I don't want to waste

I like the color... why no spoiler on yours? I like the look of it, even had one added on mine. I really do like the 06 wheels compared to mine.
Have you tried out the Nxt Metal Polyish, or the new Hot Rims polish on your tips/mufflers yet?

                As for the waxes...

Yes, you can use the DC#3 wax with the G-100. Might not spread quite as nicely as the other waxes, but no problems. Just remember it is one product per pad, so doing the car once with DC#3 to use it up will leave you with a useless pad.

The Nxt spray wax is not meant for use with the G-100. It is meant as a quick touch-up after washings, when you just want to quickly get the fresh waxed look back. So the spray wax is great to have around, but it is not used with the G-100.

How to Get Great Results Using Meguiar's Spray Waxes

My best advice, is order the "How-To Get Show Car Results with the PC" DVD by Mike Phillips and Richard Lin (OctaneGuy). Well worth the cost if you are going to be getting the G-100 and you need to help refresh your PC skills, and even shows how to use ScratchX, #7, and spray waxes.

Great DVD and will really help you get the best possible results from your PC.

I have used The DC#3 wax many times with my PC, it will give you good results. If you have it and like the look it gives might as well use it up!

In your first post you asked about the 'X4003 Gold Class Clear Coat Safe Microfiber Bonnets 2-Pack', they have been discontinued(bummer!)... there are other bonnets out there that are used for the same purpose.
