  • G100 vs G100a

I've been searching around the forum this morning to try and find the difference. I think I'm going to get the Meguiars' branded instead of the Porter Cable due to the warranty. What is the difference between these two models? I can't seem to find an answer via the search function.

G100 - is the polisher only no backing plate.
G100A - has the backing plate and one polishing pad

Great, thank you for the quick reply. That's probably why I couldn't find it, it was too easy!

G100A is the best bet, its a ready to go package! You will need more than one pad if you are calling Meguiars 800# they use to have a 3 pad package deal, something like 2 polishing pads and one finishing pad at a slightly lower price over the individual pads themselves.

          Re: G100 vs G100a

I was looking on the ADS site and it looks like if you spend $xx over the g100a kit you get a bag which is cool. I was looking at getting an additional polishing pad, 2 finishing pads, and 1 cutting pad to start with. I did get an Rx from their Tech support for hand application. It was:
          wash
          clay
          Scratch X
          #7
          Tech Wax

I wonder how much of this is going to change when I get the g100? Any ideas? I will call the support line again to see what they say. Actually I have the email address of the guy I spoke with. This is going to be used on my '95 Civic which I used to take great care of but have neglected the finish for at least 3 years, not even waxing. The other vehicle is my wife's '02 Trailblazer (metalic burgundy). I've never waxed the roof of that truck since we bought it in Jan '03 so it's pretty rough. Thanks again for your help.

            Re: G100 vs G100a

Via PC it might look something like this:
            wash
            clay
            #80 Speed Glaze
            #7
            Tech Wax

There is a new formula for ScratchX that allows you to use it with your PC or by hand but something like #80 is more economical.

If you have not seen it this is a great thread: How to use the G-100 to remove swirls

As long as you get the new formula ScratchX that’s made to be used with a PC you can leave the prescription as-is. I wouldn’t expect to see it on the shelves locally for a while. They just started shipping it.

              PC.

                PC.
Yeah, I got the hand use only version of it. After reading the link by Mike, I think I'll try the 80 first. If that doesn't cut it, I'll use 83 first, then 80, followed by the Speed Glaze and Tech Wax. Although, I'm also thinking if I use 83 first, then 80 may not be required but #7 would be better. #7 is pure polish so would the result look better than the 80 (cleaner/polish) or the same? My line of thinking is that #7 would have the slight edge because there are no cleaners in it, just polish to prep for wax. It's confusing for a newbie but I'm getting there, haha.

I like to add a pure polish after a cleaner polish, in my eyes it adds to the finished product.
