  • Does this Porter Cable 93766 kit make more sense than the 7424?

    Newbie to the polisher here.

I was looking at buying the 7424. It doesn't appear to include a case, which I would definitely want, and the pad that comes with it is stud mounted, not velcro. This sells on Amazon for $115.

Enter the 93766 kit. It has a case, and a 6" velcro pad. This sells for $160. Does it seem like the case and pad are worth the $45 difference? I bet I'd spend more trying to buy them separately.

Here's the link to the 93766 at Amazon:

    Any comments appreciated.

    Thanks.

Here is what you get buying from Meguiars (or a Meg rep)

    1. a combo (machine, backing, pads) that are proven to work together.
    2. life time warrenty
    3. outstanding customer support
    4. a forum were you (helped support) can come and ask questions to how best shine your vehicle.

    Is that worth $45?

How about a case? I'm not just going to throw a tool like that on a shelf or under the workbench.

How do I find a meguiars rep in my area?

Hello, and first let me Welcome you MOL.

To answer your question, no I would not purchase the 7336sp just for a case. I did purchase this model, from Lowes. I'm sure that is not the method that most people would prefer, but I got a killer deal on the tool (which, as a college student, is a major advantage). I just store mine in the box that it comes in, or you could get a plastic box from Walmart or somewhere else.

Now, what Mike is getting at is that Meguiar's provides you with so much more when you buy the PC in its G-100 variation. These extra benefits are outlined in Joe's response. And, as Joe suggests, these benefits are worth alot more than the $45 upcharge.

My suggestion is to order a kit from Rick at ADS. They specialize in Meguiars products, and offer the same type of service that you would recieve from going through Meguiars directly. Rick also has a great deal on pads= 6 for $5, and you tell him which pads you want.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask, as all of us are here to help!

Edit: Mike, I'm sending you an email.

I keep my G100 in a deluxe 20"plastic Craftsman tool box. The main tool, some blue tape and a few pads fit nicely in the main section while the wrench, and some detailing brushes fit nicely in the upper tray. The top has a couple of flip-up storage areas where I keep some clay, Q-tips, microfibers, etc.

I bought my G100 from Meguiar's in the spring of 1996 as part of a Concours collection. I use it a lot and it has never let me down. If you think about how much work you would have had to do to achieve the same results by hand you realize just how good this tool is.

This tool has saved me thousands of hours of detailing over the 10 years I've owned it. I believe you can get results with this tool that is just impossible to duplicate by hand. This is by far the best detailing tool I've ever purchased and is easily worth the price.

The G100 is $225.95 which would be $106 more than the 7424, $101 more than the 7336, and $65.96 more than the 97366.

-The 7336 comes with a velcro backer. Seems like that works great from what I've read.

-A lifetime warranty is great but I doubt I would need it. (now that I've said that, whatever I buy will break the first day ) The company I work for used to own Porter Cable. I've seen the PC factory and it was a very neat, quality consious operation. It had to be. I also have about 8 other power tools made by them and have never had a problem. They've got a great reputation for durability and quality. We used them exclusively in a woodshop/manufacturing where I used to work. That was the hardest a tool could ever be used and we rarely had problems. Adding a Meguiars label rather than a Porter Cable label doesn't make if a different tool. From what I've found, they are exactly the same.

-It seems that a lot of people have the 7424 and obtain support through the forum here. We're here to help each other, not shun them because of the brand of tool they use.

I don't think the added cost of the G100 is beneficial for me personally.

Actually, ADS has it for $149.99. This also includes a backing plate and 1 polishing pad.
                  That's a superb deal!!

I ve used my warranty twice, having the folks at Megs stand behind their products is a comforting feeling, one that is not enjoyed from most companies. I meep my G100 in the cardboard box it comes it...suits me fine.

As mentioned above, the thing about the mgegs branded PC is the warrantee and support. Both are top notch.

I want that dust hood.... I didnt even know they made those.
